So to anybody familiar with the Cap Roig Festival, do you think that the setlist will have to be shortened? Or do you expect that the concert will still run for the usual three hours (and therefore end only at 01:30)?

Cap Roig sounds like a very attractive place for an outdoor concert, and it is tempting to use it as an excuse for a Mediterranean vacation. Has anybody been to this festival before? Any comments as to what may make it a special, or perhaps not so special, venue? What types of audience does the festival usually attract? The magic of the experience is so much more intense when surrounded by people who are deeply appreciative of the music.

Thank you.
I don't know anything about the Cap Roig setlist-duration, but I can tell you that in Spain 22:30 is a normal hour for start a concert. It wouldn't be wired if the show end at 1:30.

But I don't know about Cap Roig.

Other question.... when I buy the tickets for León, the page said that the concert will be of 70 minutes. Anybody know anything about that? I hope it will be wrong, I see Leonard in Lisboa 3 hours, and I hope he play more or less the same time at the new gig in Spain.

Hi ronaldson, in my experience, the sets are not shortened due to the late starts. I think the reasons for later starts in Spain are firstly the weather, it is so hot in summer but it tends to be slighty cooler at night. People also work in the early evenings because of afternoon siesta, it´s not unusual to be socialising until the very wee small hours during summertime.

Cap Roig is a great place for Leonard Cohen, I´ve been up there a few times and always thought it would be ideal for him. I´ve held out on the other concerts to opt for this one as the venue is excellent. It is near the small coastal resort of Callela de Pelafrugell which is very picturesque, accomodation is quite expensive there but there is a fabulous camp site near by, quite close to jardins de cap roig.

I would thoroughly recommend it.

I went to Benicassim last summer and Leonard only performed for 1 hour. This was expected and announced. I think you may need to believe that announcement. In Benicassim it had to do with the awkward travel connections and the concert was almost cancelled.

Re Camping near the Cap Roig festival: What is the name of the campsite?

Lastly, does anyone know at what time the seats will be sold on the 11th of May?
Any advice on the process of internet booking for Cap Roig would be greatly appreciated as the seats will sell out very quickly. i.e. with Ticketmaster one can register all the credit card info in advance, can this be done with Cap Roig also?

Above is link to campsites in Calella de Palafrugell, I suppose the tickets will start to sell at normal office hours through the festival website on May 11th, the website itself says it will be updated on May 7th, so it might be best to supply them your email for advanced news.

I think the capacity is 1,800 similar to the other venues which haven´t completely sold out yet, perhaps Leonard fans are waiting for this one.

I went to the Benicasim gig last year knowing it would be impromptu, Cap de Roig is a differnt kind of festival completely, each night focusses on one artist and the festival lasts most of the summer. I don´t see why it won´t be a normal Cohen gig, but im sure they will announce it if it is not.

There is other ticket agencies offereing tickets for sale already at ridiculous rip off prices of 220 + euros. Don´t feed the touts.

Benicassim was a festival. Leon's shows it's not a festival, it's a single concert. If I don't belive the information of 70 minutes it0s beacuase "El corte inlgés", who sell the tickets, it's a spanish supermarket, and I don't trust very much in his information about concerts. I don't belive that Leonard play about 3 hours in all Europe and he only will do it for 70 minutes in spain, because we are paying a good money (92,50 euros in Madrid, 75 in León) for only one concert. That's not the case of a festival (like Benicasim).

the cap roig festival is not your typical summer festival where a bunch of bands play for a few days, more like a series of 15 to 20 individual gigs happening throughout the summer at the cap roig botanical gardens in calella de palafrugell near girona

the venue is a lovely open air auditorium overlooking the sea and it's by far the most intimate of the summer tour (under 2000 people, unlike the other venues in spain which hold from 10.000 to 20.000). i'm sure leonard cohen will play a full set there as well as in leon, elcorteingles always gets those things wrong.

tickets probably won't be much more expensive than the other spanish gigs mainly because the local administration and caixa girona partly fund the festival but they will be VERY hard to get because demand is very high every year

for more info on the festival and the beautiful gardens go here: http://festival.caproig.cat/index.php?language=en

i'm sorry i can't help with camp sites or hotels though, whenever i went i was staying with a friend in barcelona and we always drove back after the show

Hello David

If tickets are very hard to get for Cap Roig do you have any suggestions or advice or hints?

Thanks

hey Seán

i never bought tickets, the couple of times i went my friend from barcelona got free ones from someone who knew someone who knew the janitor at his bank... :D

so i dunno, ummm be alert? i'd like to think jarkko or someone else on this forum will have good info at the right moment as usual, other than that no idea

apart from the possible venice date it seems to me like girona is the place to see leonard this summer, too bad it's impossible for me as i will be in another country then, otherwise i'd try to go

Daka, Ive been to the festival a few times and never had any problem getting tickets for events. However there hasn´t been too many artists with the pulling power of leonard Cohen, perform there.

If you are on the website early on may 11th you shouldn´t have any problems.

There are websites currently offering LC tickets for this gig, these people are touts and are charging 3 times the ticket price without a guarantee you will get a ticket. Be wary of those who push in the direction of these touts.

Check out the camp site link I posted a few posts back.

well i didn't mean to say it's impossible to get tickets!! just that demand is high and the place isn't that big so you'll probably be able to get yourself tickets the morning they go on sale but the gig will probably be sold out in a matter of hours for sure unlike all the other dates with bigger venues

maybe not for all the concerts but it's always the same with such high-profile acts at cap roig, i remember when bob dylan played tickets were gone fast and even julio iglesias sold out his gig last year within a day and had to add another concert LOL

the press conference for the festival is tomorrow morning and on may 11 you should go here for tickets:

http://www.caixagirona.es
http://www.fundaciocaixagirona.org
http://www.caproig.cat

or call 902 44 77 55 (from within spain)

Cap Roig offers concerts with very different styles, in the programming of 2008 we find Paul Anka and Julio Iglesias, at the same time Georges Moustaki and Raimon (a committed Catalan songwriter). It is situated in the heart of the Costa Brava, one of the most select and lovely places of our coast. It is a perfect way for the tourists and residents of spending a summer night. Leonard Cohen will be a good attraction for them. Of course many of his fans will come, in my opinion the atmosphere will be relaxed and nice.

The Palau Sant Jordi of Barcelona is a fine place to watch sports and its sound is good for sports too. Too much big. It's not el Palau de la Música Catalana. Anyway, here is my ticket it's beautiful, you can't see but has brilliant lines:

Here is a bunch of enthusiasts waiting excited for the 75 Leonard Cohen's anniversary in the Palau Sant Jordi of Barcelona, it will be a concert unique. Five years ago (for the 70 anniversary) Jorcx organised an unforgettable concert tribute. We met us thanks to this forum. The history of the gestation of this project we can find it in:
viewtopic.php?t=2573&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

The emotions in:
viewtopic.php?t=2725&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Jorcx is a Catalan songwriter who released in 2006 "Jorcx interpreta Cohen"
http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/jorcx.html

We hope to encourage him again and we could meet on Sunday, the 20th of September and enjoy together Leonard's songs the day before his anniversary and his concert. See you friends! FYS ;-)
