Here's a little more of the translation:

Marianne doesn’t write one word home that first year. Those two are naïve and immature. At Hydra was by now a dream completely until Axel was in love himself with another. Therefore, started ‘the greek drama’, that finished with Marianne and writer Leonard Cohen finding each other.

Marianne never was finished with Hydra. “At reunion, Marianne” says it, like the old sweetheart, Leonard, sang “So Long Marianne” and makes Marianne known to an entire world.

Marianne is back on Hydra together with her man Jan Stang and Per and Else Berit ‘Pus’ Scioldborg, who were witnesses (best man/bridesmaids?) at Axel & Marianne’s wedding in Athens in 1958. Jan Christian and Markus Mollestad in ARD Film had invited them down for making a documentary in drama at Hydra. Marianne is Norwegian culture history (literal translation of kulturhistorie).

Reunion with the past.

Hi Madison ~

With your translations, this is coming together in many ways as being very obviously a poignant interview. Thanks.

Yes, thanks Madison for the translation.

Let’s only hope the inevitable will be postponed long enough
so that we'll be able to read the whole thing first.

Also a big thanks to the other friends from Norway
who so altruistically flooded this forum with their translations
of this important article on the Cohen/Marianne
saga for us the poor fans who don't know Norwegian.

Appreciated!

Cool! I didn't think anyone was reading it (besides Lizzy) :wink: .

Sorry its taking so long.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At Hydra was Marianne at home; she became stopped at each whitewashed gatecorner, becoming embraced, hearing news and compliments, chatting and laughing. She has come here a lot of times since then she forlot (not in dictionary) island together with her son Little-Axel in 1974. It was also samlivet (not in dictionary) with one year older Leonard Cohen ending. It was in this place that became ‘birds on a wire’- looks for acceptance (?).
There lies the coffee-house where we sat each evening!
We go around in Hydra town with Marianne, and while she points relates/tells immerses son until colonial handler (?) Katzikas up. With him deal/shop them in Crete in one year while they wait for the check from the publishing house in the cold north.
How are you? Says Marianne.
Tasso Katzikaz kisses her on both cheeks, and they talk in Greek. They sit under Ikaros’ painting by her former artist/teacher (?) Demitri Kazomiz, who she accidentally met under the billowy clouds a half hour time later.
Here are a few more paragraphs. I am only on page 3 and the article is 11 pages... I wish my translation skills were better but I guess you only get better at it by doing it....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Not long afterwards Marianne stood in the door until that time was the colonial shop (?). There sat from Australia, North-America, Ireland and the North (?) behind and outfit retsina (not in dictionary) and laughed and weeping and talked and in love themselves in each others partner. Goran Tunstrom and Allen Ginsberg were also here.

It was here, in this door(way?), I met Leonard Cohen the first time! She says- Here I sense a good energy!

Her face beamed; in the blink of an eye she was fifty years younger; she almost soared; exactly as she made in the best period down here.

- He comes in with the sun behind him. I see only a black shade and said to him ‘Would you like to join us?”.

By now comes in reprise (not in dictionary). Also, Axel Jensen, in defiance until for that “the Marianne who lived together with him did not exist”. Axel received another life (he wanted another life?). Last she saw him was in Hydra in 1962. He became ousted from Hellas because he hit a policeman in the sea (?). After “Ikaros” (1957) and “Line” (1959) last he didn’t bokene (not in dictionary) his even. “Joacim” from 1961 wasn’t a key novel in the bohemian art scene in Hydra, has she read, she claims.

The first apartment:

Thank you some more, Madison :D !

It's great imagining Allen Ginsberg on Hydra, with Leonard and Marianne.

This passage is wonderful... and most especially the portion I've italicized; it is just so easy to imagine 8) :D .

Thanks so much for your time and effort with this article. It's relatively long, yet you're right that it's only through practice that your translation skills will improve. What better place to do it :D .

A little more for you....

Happy Tuesday (ugh...).... :roll:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She takes us up to the first room she and Axel lived in, in another floor in Hotel Sofia, a romantic little den with a balcony and a view over the cafes and the land with all the boats (boatyard?).
Whenever she stands there in the doorway (?) by the balcony and tells about the first time with Axel, when coming emotion still, and tears collect in a bunch on her neck.
Now first understand I was fucking awful Axel had it at the time, and was unthinkable the destiny/fate have devastated/desolate with him, she says.
And so she doesn’t think the in the year Axel Jensen was paralytic by muscle-sickness ALS forward at/by/until he died in 2003; she thinks at living in Hydra and that unmanageable balance(?) Axel had with himself from childhood.
Then we come here by this apartment in 1957; we keep in to freeze ihjel (not in dictionary) she laughs. Whether the night had we at us accommodations (?) and sweatshirts and everything we otherwise by clothing. Electricity barely functioned one hour each morning and each evening.
That considered, and by now everything they had was wet from humidity
1 – 9 September 2007
Christianssand Protest Festival is a protest against powerlessness and indifference, in support of commitment and action. A protest against standardisation of society and one-track market thinking
and a feeble notion of tolerance. A programme in the spirit of Axel Jensen, Jens Bjørneboe and Henrik Wergeland.
Victoria pub, Markens gate
1700 DISCUSSION: the lyrics, the songs
and Leonard Cohen.
May Grete Lerum talks to Marianne Ihlen, who lived together with LC at Hydra for long periods during the 1960s, about life there and the background for some of the well-known songs that were written, including So Long Marianne.
Musical performance by Nicolay Lange-Nielsen, who has translated Cohen for a show about his life, music and writing.
