To answer your last question first, Yankovic did, enough to ask it. I have. That's two. Two, in fact, who were engaging in a dialogue regarding it. I've also wondered about others, and am always delighted [along with others who obviously care, when they make the discovery] when I see that this or that person is, or has been right along, aware of Leonard's work.
To answer your first question second, the legalization of marijuana link has to do with one's approximate age, era, ways of thinking, and hence, perhaps, prior exposure to Leonard's work. There was a cultural movement here during which a marijuana cigarette surfacing was not an anachronism. Some didn't even indulge. On that fact-or-fiction matter, ask Bill Clinton
