Sylvie reports that the following translations are coming, sooner or later:
Denmark -
Norway -
Poland -
China -
Finland -
Greece -
Slovenia -
Czech -
Turkey -

I wonder why Swedish, French, Russian and Portuguese publishers have not yet shown interest in translating this excellent bio!

Going by the new poetry collection in Russian that Goldin posted yesterday[?], I'm guessing that Russia may at some point do it. Maybe it'll just take them a little longer to get on board. Not sure about the rest, but it does seem odd... maybe, they're just slow out of the gate, too. That's an impressive line-up, though... good on Sylvie and Leonard!!

There is: http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/sylviebook.html (btw, the most volumetric one; can someone solve the mystery: 752 pp. in German edition, 448 pp. in Dutch one - what's the matter? it can't be just format/font).

Lizzy, I'm quite pessimistic about Russian perspectives (regarding LC; I'm happy about political, cultural and economic development, especially I'm proud of human rights issues, obviously...)
The total number of copies of two latest Russian poetry collections, as far as I know, is 1500. The most recent book looks like a local iniciative: translator from Tomsk, sculptor from Tomsk provides his artwork for a cover, publishers are TomSouvenir ("Tom" stands for "Tomsk", surely).

BUMMER, Goldin! Happy for what's out there, but it's of course not enough.

Hi Goldin, I don't know about the Dutch book, but I have the German and the
American editions. The size of the German book is smaller than the American
book. In addition to that the letter in the German book is larger.
Along with the fact that German translations are always a little longer than
the original English texts these facts make the difference between 752 and 570 pages.
The contents are exactly the same.

Thanks, Christiane! So, that makes sense: format + font size + something that reminds me of Mark Twain ;-)

Roman,

Mark Twain has totally confused me    I hope this is not the case in the book Christiane.

Mark wrote:That paragraph furnishes a text for a few remarks about one of the most curious and notable features of my subject — the length of German words. Some German words are so long that they have a perspective. Observe these examples:

Freundschaftsbezeigungen.
Dilettantenaufdringlichkeiten.
Stadtverordnetenversammlungen.

These things are not words, they are alphabetical processions. And they are not rare; one can open a German newspaper at any time and see them marching majestically across the page — and if he has any imagination he can see the banners and hear the music, too. They impart a martial thrill to the meekest subject. I take a great interest in these curiosities. Whenever I come across a good one, I stuff it and put it in my museum. In this way I have made quite a valuable collection. When I get duplicates, I exchange with other collectors, and thus increase the variety of my stock. Here are some specimens which I lately bought at an auction sale of the effects of a bankrupt bric-a-brac hunter:

Generalstaatsverordnetenversammlungen.
Alterthumswissenschaften.
Kinderbewahrungsanstalten.
Unabhaengigkeitserklaerungen.
Wiedererstellungbestrebungen.
Waffenstillstandsunterhandlungen.
