Re: Lyon concert the 9th of july
Yes!!!
I have just bought my ticket. From what I've seen, the theatre is a wonderful and perfect location for a concert with Leonard.
The price of 51.80 EUR (if you print out the ticket yourself) is very reasonable if you compare it with the prices of some of the other venues Leonard will be playing (250 CAN-Dollars is just insane...)
So instead of going to Montreux I decided to go to Lyon instead. In Montreux the prices for acts in the league of Leonard are normally in between 80 EUR for standing tickets and 150 EUR for seats.....

We've just purchased our tickets for the show. Really looking forward to it!

Thank you!

Re: Lyon concert the 9th of july
For those who didn't notice that there is a first page on this thread
and thus have problems ordering tickets through La Fnac :
Once you're there click on "Réservez vos places". Under "Nbre de places", enter the number of tickets you would like to buy. Underneath that space, select under "Carte bancaire" (credit card), on the left, the option "Billet imprimable à domicile" to print out your tickets. Then click on "Poursuivre" (continue). You then get a summary of your reservations, which you can still cancel (annuler). Once your selection is correct, click again on poursuivre. Since you will most probably be a new customer select "identifiez vous" under "vous êtes un nouveau client".
You're then asked to tell whether you're a Miss (Mlle), a Mrs (Mme) or a Mr (M.), then to enter your last name (nom) and your first name (prénom) , your email address, and your chosen password (mot de passe) which has to be repeated; then comes your date of birth (date de naissance) in dd/mm/yyyy format. You don't want to be bothered with offers, so you select "non" next to "Je souhaite recevoir des offres de la part de la Fnac * ".
Underneath comes your address. Unless your company pays for your tickets, select "particulier".
The first three lines are for street and building, "code postal" is "zip code", ville is "city", "pays" is country, "telephone fixe" is landline, "telephone portable" is cell phone. At least one of the telephone numbers must be entered. Then click on "poursuivre". The next step should be to enter your payment details. If you have a problem there, I would advise to make a screen shot and ask here on the forum for more help.
Bonne chance!

And for those who were not attentive during French classesshikimo wrote: Regarding the venue and the 'festival', I can give a little info and say what it's been like in previous years, although one never knows:
1)The tickets are usually between 40-60 Euros for 'big names', less for 'smaller' ones. I have no idea where LC fits into this spectrum, but I'm guessing his guarantees for this tour are high enough to put the tickets in the upper end of that range;
2)As far as I know, the seating is all GA; it would be hard on the ruins to carve seat numbers into the rock. However, I've only seen lesser-known folk and dance there, so maybe they do something to number the seats and sell them at different price points for a big show;
3)It seats between 2800 and 4500, depending on the arrangement of equipment and seating;
4)Bring something soft to sit on!! Like I said above, unless they do something clever the majority of the seats are still good old-fashioned blocks of rock, and 2100 years hasn't made them any softer.
Regarding the weather, sure it MIGHT be a hot day (or might not: 0 days over 35 last summer), but the show is at 21:30, and summer nights are always gorgeous here when it isn't raining...
From the upper two-thirds or so of the amphitheatre you can see the lights of the city spread out over downtown and the plains to the east of the Rhone...it's really a spectacular venue and in its own way is as naturally stunning as, for example, Red Rocks in Colorado, only much smaller and more intimate.
What's more, the acoustics are incredible; the forum was built by Romans (more precisely, by Gauls under Roman rule) who needed to be heard by large crowds without the benefit of artificial voice amplification. The buzzards of time have worn away some of this effect, but it is still a remarkable piece of engineering; you can stand at center stage (it's open to the public--free of charge--when there are no events), talk in a conversational tone and be heard easily in the 'bleachers'. Of course, for big shows they built some sort of more traditional stage over the original rock and tiles, but still:).
Above the seats there are ruins of roman housing in which you can crawl around, replete with remnants of fire pits, 'plumbing' and little doors that show us how short people were back then.
Anyway, it's gonna be one amazing concert.
PS If any visitors want any info on Lyon (hotels, neighborhoods, restaurants, other stuff worth seeing, etc.) feel free to post...I'd be happy to offer suggestions.

Now I understand what "temporarily not available" stands for on the Fnac's site... I've already got my ticket though.jarkko wrote:The Lyon concert is now sold out (today).

Augusta, if you go to the following page, and enter your email address in the pink field in the middle, you'll get an email if some tickets become available again, or in the not likely event that a concert is added at the same venue.
Re: Lyon concert the 9th of july
Lovely 'arènes'. The Nice concert will also take place in a beautiful Roman amphitheatre, on top of one of the hills overlooking the city.Chubi wrote:Bela: Last time I saw a concert in Fourvière, the *official* maximum temperature during the afternoon had reached 38°C, and it wasn't during the heatwave. Lyon is in a bucket, and its temperature regularly reaches levels you don't have at the sea-side, even though the average temperature is lower than in Nice.

The concert will take place there:
(I don't work for the tourist office, I just happen to have spent the first 20 years of my life in that city.)
I lived in Nice from the age of 14 to 27. I'm not going to quibble over a few degrees, but it gets mightily hot in the summer (the sea doesn't make much difference - it's not exactly the Atlantic). After 28 years in London, I find it very difficult to bear those temperatures.
It'll be lovely anyway. (And I will attend it in that barn of a place called the O2 Arena. Arena! Ha!)

Re: Lyon concert the 9th of july
In a sweeping change of plans, I got 3 tickets for this show last month, and finally sold my Toronto ticket this weekend, to a member of this forum. So now instead of flying from San Francisco to see LC in Toronto, I will be seeing him with my husband and daughter during our vacation in France this summer. I am thrilled with the change (among other things it is much more cost effective), and the Lyon venue looks gorgeous, but I admit to having some paranoid concerns (BTW a huge thanks to Chubi for the incredibly detailed ticket ordering instructions you posted here.)
The show is General Admission- I suppose that means people will line up as early as possible, perhaps even camp out, to get good seats. What if I can't read the French signs at the venue, or somehow get the wrong info from fellow attendees, and end up standing in the wrong place. I suppose it will be obvious where to wait, but....the mind reels with possible things that could go wrong. What about saving seats for my family? My daughter is 6 and I can't expect her to sit there from dawn to the start of the show, so my husband will take her out and they will see city of Lyon while I wait in line. They will meet up with me again right before show starts. I have visions of people screaming at us, thinking they are "cutting" in line. WIll the venue be sticklers about people coming and going from the line? I'm sure it will all be fine in the end but I am desperate for a close seat (and prepared to sit several hours to earn it!) but I can't help but wonder how intense the scramble for seats will be once the doors open. (And that's another thing- maybe I am just assuming this venue has the US habit of not opening until an hour or so before showtime. Perhaps at this venue people can stroll in and out all day, as long as they have their tickets. That would certainly be nice, and would put my concerns (mostly) to rest. I would still worry about angering others by saving seats around me.
A lot of these are rhetorical questions... but any thoughts, especially from those who have attended other GA shows at this venue, would be much appreciated!

Re: Lyon concert the 9th of july
I've never attended a concert in Lyon, but I have 40 years' experience of going to the theatre in the UK - very often to venues where seats are unallocated. It is very annoying to suddenly see half a dozen people joining one person in the queue right at the last minute, but if you tell the people who come and join the queue after you that two more people (your husband and your little girl) will eventually turn up it should be OK. You might have to say it again to the next person, so at least a couple of people or more are aware of the fact and it's not a big surprise when your family appear.
