Re: Lyon concert the 9th of july
If I've read this forum correctly, there won't be any pre sales.
Sales for "Les nuits de Fourvière" start on 26th March at 12h - I believe they mean midday by this - French time. Tickets are sold through http://www.fnac.com and http://www.nuitsdefourviere.fr .
And, yes, Lyon is a very nice city, sometimes extremely hot in the summer - for continental Europe -, and definitely worth a visit.

Nowhere near as hot as Nice at the end of July.Chubi wrote:Lyon is a very nice city, sometimes extremely hot in the summer - for continental Europe...

Bela: Last time I saw a concert in Fourvière, the *official* maximum temperature during the afternoon had reached 38°C, and it wasn't during the heatwave. Lyon is in a bucket, and its temperature regularly reaches levels you don't have at the sea-side, even though the average temperature is lower than in Nice.
Some practical information for those who would like to give the city a try: it's 2 hours away from Paris and 5 from Brugge (where next LC concert takes place), both using the TGV (http://www.tgv-europe.com), and several low cost airlines fly there (easyjet, bmi, very probably more).
The concert will take place there:

(I don't work for the tourist office, I just happen to have spent the first 20 years of my life in that city.)

two questions about Lyon
two questions about Lyon though...
Cohen's concert will be part of a festival, right? so.. would it be as ling as any other concers? and does it have any special orientation (like jazz, etc) or is it a "reguilar" concert?
and what about the price for the front rows? does anybody have any evaluation?
lyon, were coming.

Re: Lyon concert the 9th of july
This is an "everything goes" festival, with dance, theater, cinema and music.
The good news: I've asked on their blog whether another artist would perform on the 9th, and the reply is that the whole evening is reserved for Leonard Cohen.
I'm not sure whether the "seats" are numbered or not, and I can't help about the price either: I don't remember that there are different tariffs, but it may be different depending on the progamme. We'll have to wait until the 26th, unless the information is published somewhere before.
I too am coming (back).

WOOOOOO-HOOOO!!!!
When I moved to Lyon from the US I never imagined LC would come play a show within walking distance of my apartment:).
Regarding the venue and the 'festival', I can give a little info and say what it's been like in previous years, although one never knows:
1)The tickets are usually between 40-60 Euros for 'big names', less for 'smaller' ones. I have no idea where LC fits into this spectrum, but I'm guessing his guarantees for this tour are high enough to put the tickets in the upper end of that range;
2)As far as I know, the seating is all GA; it would be hard on the ruins to carve seat numbers into the rock:). However, I've only seen lesser-known folk and dance there, so maybe they do something to number the seats and sell them at different price points for a big show;
3)It seats between 2800 and 4500, depending on the arrangement of equipment and seating;
4)Bring something soft to sit on!! Like I said above, unless they do something clever the majority of the seats are still good old-fashioned blocks of rock, and 2100 years hasn't made them any softer.
Regarding the weather, sure it MIGHT be a hot day (or might not: 0 days over 35 last summer), but the show is at 21:30, and summer nights are always gorgeous here when it isn't raining...
From the upper two-thirds or so of the amphitheatre you can see the lights of the city spread out over downtown and the plains to the east of the Rhone...it's really a spectacular venue and in its own way is as naturally stunning as, for example, Red Rocks in Colorado, only much smaller and more intimate.
What's more, the acoustics are incredible; the forum was built by Romans (more precisely, by Gauls under Roman rule) who needed to be heard by large crowds without the benefit of artificial voice amplification. The buzzards of time have worn away some of this effect, but it is still a remarkable piece of engineering; you can stand at center stage (it's open to the public--free of charge--when there are no events), talk in a conversational tone and be heard easily in the 'bleachers'. Of course, for big shows they built some sort of more traditional stage over the original rock and tiles, but still:).
Above the seats there are ruins of roman housing in which you can crawl around, replete with remnants of fire pits, 'plumbing' and little doors that show us how short people were back then.
Anyway, it's gonna be one amazing concert.
PS If any visitors want any info on Lyon (hotels, neighborhoods, restaurants, other stuff worth seeing, etc.) feel free to post...I'd be happy to offer suggestions.

Re: Lyon concert the 9th of july
The website is a bit confusing...but if you click around a bit you can find the ticket-buying page. Or go here: http://www.fnacspectacles.com/ and do a search for LC tomorrow after 12:00 France time. Right now they only have tickets for 2 LC shows elsewhere, but the Lyon show should be there tomorrow. I wouldn't recommend telephoning; even if you speak OK French, in my experience most telecustomer service types here aren't too helpful or reliable, and the call is likely to cost, possibly even charging you for the hold time. I've used the FNAC website and it's perfectly reliable, as I imagine the nuits de fourviere site to be as well, although I've never used it.ways_of_escape wrote:hey everyone..

I'll be there in person tomorrow afternoon, 'cuz I don't trust the French post office either:).
Re: Lyon concert the 9th of july
Just received an email alert from the FNAC. Tickets for Lyon via the FNAC website go on sale this morning at 11 am French time !
Re: Lyon concert the 9th of july
For those asking for the ticket price: it is €51,80. And it seems that the ticket can be printed out, so need to be afraid about losing it in the post.
Re: Lyon concert the 9th of july
Thanks Judy and Chubi, that's great info! I'll try buying from home at 11, and head down to FNAC only if it doesn't work.
51.80 is actually a pretty good price, considering the artist and the venue...I feared it would be higher.
I still don't believe this is happening...

Ditto...I'll be the guy right behind you, the one with the Frenchwoman (my wife) who doesn't understand what the big deal is
.
Big thank you again to Judy for tipping us off that the tickets would be available an hour earlier than advertised on the FNAC site. That's weird, but I'm not complaining.
Just one complaint with the FNAC site: in the 'à savoir' section of the LC ticket-buying page, it simply says, "Une légende américaine revient sur scène après quinze ans d’absence."
I'm not sure which is worse: that they don't know he's Canadian, or that they think he hasn't done anything in 15 years...but who cares, LC is coming to Lyon and all is right with the world.
