Jimbo, I actually got a warning about the penguins, I suppose they think we should already know that lions can be dangerous.

the food was all good in South Africa, bar a single meal out, all the other restaurants were both excellent and absurdly cheap.

but here's a new word for you sweeping the nation, well, that nation anyway, isn't it awful- "waitron". "Please ask your waitron for the specials", and traffic lights are "robots" but I am told that they are called that elsewhere as well.

Manna, just asses my progress. I can actually get pics. on the screen now. aren't you proud? when you view my images is there not a pride of lions at my advancing knowledge. I don't think I can go as small as 8 inches (except maybe after a very cold shower).

Gnu, now there's a lovely name. I wanted to see a tiger (some ridiculous excuse about wrong continent was given), armadillo (apparently Spanish) and a sloth. just the very word slottttthhhhh makes me tired.

so what software do you use to reduce the size? I d and d into paintshop and reduce the %, must be easier way?

It was too late at night to rescue him then but the guide set out the next day with a Vet to find and tranquilize the animal.

Tranquilize it so it could then be treated? Or tranquilize it enough to where it would die and be out of its misery? What exactly is that kind of trap?

tranquilize to save, and the trap was a wire I think, to cut the neck. one of the best times btw was when I was walking alone from our lodge and about 30 baboons ran across, yards in front of me, and I froze for a second before remembering the advice to be cool.

I guess a quick thaw helped you out there.

I'm thinking a group of baboons would have the potential to do the same as monkeys and do a group jump onto you. Is that right? Those adrenaline-rush, survived-the-experience times really are the best... on trips into the wilds.

Good news on the vet's intention to save the lion. How horrible that trap.

I was really surprised to know that there were Penguin in Africa I thought you was on a wind-up. I googled it and it is TRUE. And guess what they are called, African Penguins, that is something I didn't know so that is my one thing that I have learnt today done and dusted.

It's interesting, too, to see that they don't require snow and ice. I wonder if that's been a species adaptation to warming temperatures with climate changes in the past.

We have these little pewter penguins that were being given for awhile as monthly awards of recognition for one thing or another, with "The Power of Team" as the theme. They're no longer being done, but I got one some time ago and it comes with an explanation card of its symbolic significance.

This is what it says [very interesting and inspiring]:

The flightless fairy penguin of Australia stands less than a foot tall and is clumsy on land, where the fox is its natural enemy. Alone, one penguin wouldn't survive for long. So, after each day in the water, they gather where the surf meets the shore, waiting until the last penguin joins them. Then shoulder to shoulder they march up the beach to their burrows. They support each other. They rely on eachy other. And everyone, except the fox, wins.

Isn't it kind of silly to reward one individual for teamwork? Your post inspired me to post this, Lizzy, but it is something I have thought about before. I'm not into the idea of rewards at all really, but if you feel you need to reward something, oughtn't it be a reward that unites people?

Let's say a group of office workers is given a task of X amount of work, and told if they do more than X, then there will be a reward. Pizza lunch or something. Wouldn't they be more likely to help each other? If Dan does 60% of X and there are 9 people in the office, and Dan gets a penguin for that, and everyone else wants penguins, wouldn't the others do what they could to get Dan's numbers down?
