So the rumours are true? Is Leonard Cohen touring in 08?

I just had to join to get confirmation on this: Is Leonard Cohen really going back on tour next year?

(... well, obviously he is, seeing as there are so many posts covering the subject already...)

I had the distinct pleasure of spending an hour or so with him this July when he was in Manchester. Such a warm, wonderful and drole presence, his reputation as the merchant of despair is very undeserving, if you ask me. My love for his music has only grown since then. Can't wait to hear him out and about, touring again. I was a little too young when he last went on the road (I was 11 in '93...) but I hope to be there. Any word on the release date of his new album? That's always a nice indicator of a new tour starting!

Hi

I am a Buddhist monk living in the mountains outside of Madrid. I was in retreat in Scotland when Leonard was in retreat in California. When I left retreat he released "Ten New Songs", and I understood that this was mostly very pure Buddhist belief/philosophy.

I don't tell anybody but I do play guitar and sing Leonardś songs quite a bit on my own.

I have been a fan since mid sixties. I used to live in Montreal and actually bumped into Leonard in the early hours of the morning in (Dusty's) restaurant on Park Avenue but didn't chat with him. I think we were both "pre-verbal" at that moment in time due to ingestion of too many mind-altering substances.
I have never seen Leonard perform and have a very strong wish to do this on his next tour.

I would also like to meet him. If anyone has some suggestions on how I may be able to get in contact with him, or his manager please pass this on.

I love your avatar. It sounds as though you may have chosen a similar, monk's path for reasons not unlike those of Leonard, perhaps, with matters of the heart and just a difference in substances?

Your perspectives here would be very interesting. I'm glad to hear that you play and sing Leonard's songs. Wonderful place it would seem for being in a monastery, being in Spain.

I don't live in a monastery, I live by myself in a small retreat house that I built. don't think they would allow me to take my guitar to a monastery, I would have to sneak it in, like a woman.

I like Florida too...anywhere that is EXTREMELY warm suits my badly abused constitution.

I am out of retreat for dental work and will stay in touch with the forum for a while.... I am glad to have found it.

I sent an email off to Leonard's management begging early notice of his concert dates.

I loved Leonard's music in my dark and hedonistic hippy phases. I love his music even more now that he is offering the depth and wisdom of Buddhist philosophy as a main course..to music...the nature of reality ("there is a crack in everything".. "a thousand kisses deep")... the state of our world .."the future".."closing time".."here it is".. ("samsara" in Buddhist terms), impermanence, etc etc.

When I listen to Leonard I may as well be listening to a lama.

A high and lovely compliment. The layers are there for the taking, aren't they? I, too, have found myself loving his music, regardless of the passage of time. They all come together for me, regardless.

Might you describe it for us? Do you have any photos you could post?

Yes... I love the warm climate, too. Interesting [to me] that I've found myself missing/longing for snow this fall, with winter coming on... I guess enough time has passed for that to have crept back in... never thought I'd see the day... never say never.

Yes i can describe where I live.... I built two places, a 20 sq metre building, one room with small shower and basin area, and a smaller, more humble cave-like structure (5 square metres, with the bed suspended from the ceiling and a roof window above my head... i love this spot as I sleep near the sky and stars in summer and delight in the extreme heat. I crawl out on the roof often to sleep or meditate. Both places have a solar panel and battery but no normal electricity or telephone lines or neighbors.

I am in isolated abandoned vineyard country 1 1/2 hours from Madrid. I have unusually good retreat conditions. I will try to send you a few pictures. The pictures are poor quality as I tried hard to lower the megabyte size...

It's simple and beautiful, Daka . Thank you for sharing your photos. Is it as sturdy as it looks and how long did it take you to build the two? Which one are we seeing in these photos? Do you have any of the inside of them?
