That's All Right (CTG)

Post by Christopher T. George »

That's All Right

In the autumn gale,
leaves fly from the willow like bees
before the apian plague began
to kill off all the bees.
But that's all right.

The news anchor says the body
count from the war's reached
a new high--but we've got
plenty of body bags.
So that's all right.

We are sending in an army
of professional mourners:
death's always more palatable
when tears are spontaneous.
And it's quite all right.

A train arrives in the station
entirely filled with caskets.
Fortunately word is received
we've enough flags to go around.
So everything's all right.

The lesson?
All losses are planned.
So that's all right.

Very pointed and strong. I would have left out third last line: "The Lesson?" I think you already have made the point. "All losses are planned. / So that's alright." is punchier... I think.

Thanks for your kind words, Jimmy. I appreciate the recommendation for the ending.

My best to you
