bonjovi sings your Hallelujah song

Post by bonjovi »

Did you Leonard, see Bonjovi on StippedMusic.com singing your Halujeh song? Sorry my spelling is off. It is a great performance! I would like to know what you think of it and if you have talked to him about it please? He has not recorded it yet, but I think he should, and maybe you should tell him, to do so !

I'm not Leonard, but I saw Bon Jovi doing said song on video. I told someone about it, who immediately turned up their nose at the thought, but actually, I thought he did a rather good job. Hallelujah, seems to be covered by almost everyone right now. With good reason. Sorry, I really wish I could say I were Leonard, just to make your day.

Apparently a version has been released in Iraq, renamed and rewritten as "Falujah."

You mean Hal Falujah, brother of Omar? The song was a tribute to him.

I guess this is where I could say "oh, brother", but I won't.

It's a good thing you didn't, sister, cuz I wouldn't've known what to say back to ya.

I guess the next thing I oughta do is listen to the song, as soon as I'm where I can.

This came from Karen in NY:
I thought this might be of interest..it is from an interview w/Jon Bon Jovi in Australia's Herald Sun from February 14...(for entire interview [the rest unrelated to matters Cohen however] link is: http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/ ... 02,00.html

You're covering Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah these days. . .
It's a pleasure to sing that song. I'm jealous . . . what a song.

Is that a song you wish you'd written?

It's right up there, man. It's up there in the Top 10 of all time. The only thing that gives me any solace is that I read it took him five years to write it. It's a masterpiece.

Do you like the Jeff Buckley version?
I do. I saw him in a bar, couldn't have been more than 50 people there, no exaggeration, in Asbury Park, New Jersey. It was for that first EP (Live at Sin-E) with the coffee cup ring on it. He was this close to the bar. He could sing. The honest-to-God truth is that was the first time I heard Hallelujah.

I didn't know Cohen's version before that. I heard that song and went, ‘‘There's the hit!'' and my friend went, ‘‘You genius, it's a Leonard Cohen song, you're not so bright are you?'' Nope, but at least I wasn't the last one to know it was a Cohen song.

I also love Jeff Buckley singing Hallelujah and can listen to it over and over again. This is the only cover of a Leonard Cohen song that I really like. It is so sad that the talented young man had to pass away so untimely.
