Laurie, I read this poem and thought of our more common magpies, spring has just started and they are already swooping to attack. When I hear their "quardle oodle ardle wardle doodle" in the morning, they could be talking about me. What season is this poem set in?

Blonde Madonna~

It is the beginning of autumn up here in Alaska. But now that you mention it, it could have been a cool spring morning just as easily as a fall one.

Ravens, jays and magpies are all corvids. The smartest birds on the planet. In actuality, the pair of ravens I mentioned were 'my' ravens. I have been feeding a pair on my property (up the hill from this lake) for a couple of years. The last couple of days that I have been walking down by the lake, they have been sort of tagging along, landing in the trees and telephone poles as I walk along, calling attention to themselves. Pretty funny.
