Bickering and Bullying

Post by Paula »

I think I have come up with a way we can all vend our opinions on whether there is a certain amount of belittling and bullying going on in this forum.

I have attached a poll and the way I see it we can all only vote once on a poll and if we don't put a comment in our names will not be shown and therefore the vote will be anonymous

Unless you want to put a comment in that is your choice. Please do not turn this thread into a witch hunt or to settle any old scores that is not my intention

Please choose an option (if you want) this poll should enable everyone to venture an opinion (even the shy ones).

Too much "I am right, you are wrong and I am going to prove it" going on here.

By me!

We should be wary of this (and it can happen as we are only human) and be more sensitive and tolerant to others feelings.
I apologise if i have been..............Georges

this is the only forum that i came back to (i usualy read some posts, post something, and then forget where that forum was), so it can't be all that bad --- i think it is a happy medium. i wouldn't like it if we were all kissing each other's butts.

There is some belittling, there is some bullying, I-am-right-you-are-wronging going on, of course, we're not perfect. ("only human" - Georges)

Everybody here should know that sometimes, in the heat of discussions, words are said that sound like belittling in the ears of those they're directed to, but were never meant as such. We'd better give each other some more credit.

To all those I might have unintentionally hurt I apologize.

Nonetheless: I love being here. At least we try.

#1500 to Tom.D.Stiller

Post by lizzytysh »

Dear Tom.D.Stiller ~

#1500 !?! ~ Does this computer lose count or what?

It took me so [a relatively] long time to reach 1000, yet only a couple months later, I'm at 500 more, half again that milestone. It looks like the war thread made for that!

Be that as it may, it's a great opportunity to thank and commend you for your consistent efforts to maintain cordial respect in your communications with others as you continue with peace efforts from a peaceful perspective.

I feel proud to know you.

Only question I have Paula is who is the arbiter of right and wrong - is it not the individual reading the post who decides whether it is right or wrong so each member of the forum has their own idea of right and wrong.

JTS (I asked you if a man could be forgiven?)

Tysh darling the computer has not lost count, your memory is failing you, your rate of posting was almost 10 per day in your run up to 500. I do believe you are quite down on that now. Funny how the mind plays tricks....

Elizabeth, are you really talking to me?

I'm deeply honored by the mere fact that you dedicated #1500 to me of all the good people you could have addressed. Thank you so much!

I cannot offer much more in response to your dedication than the humble 10 % of your totals that I could acquire in the last few weeks.

I remember starting my first post (about 7 weeks ago) with the words: "Thanks for the link, and for the AP thing as well."

The "AP thing" had been posted - by some "lizzytysh", a person I knew absolutely nothing about, just a name behind a post. How things have changed! Improved!

I feel proud to know you.

Tom

what would be the difference?

Post by Sandra »

Hi Paula!
what would be the difference if it was like you say?
there is a moderator here isnt it?
it doesnt have to be our worry that matter.....
if something directly hurts you .....well that is different....and perhaps that may happen because sometimes you refer here to topics that have nothing to do with this forum......

Partisan ~

You, of course  , recognized the facetiousness of my questioning. Even so, much shorter a time to acquire 500 vs. the time to acquire the 1000, during which my posting #s were notorious in their own right 8) ~ :) . I remain indebted to you, as always  , for keeping track of my numbers. My own personal accountant, so to speak. Thanks :D !

Hi Sandra

If I was voting now I would say happy medium but a couple of weeks ago people were tearing each other to shreds. I also disagree with your comment about topics that have nothing to do with the forum. So far as I am concerned all topics are to do with the forum. We are community and we chat about all and sundry. :D

JTS I wasn't having a pop at you. I am as guilty as the next man (so long as the next man isn't OJ Simpson). I post as if I am having a conversation and I know I have upset people - unintentionally. I am blunt in real life and being blunt in a typed message comes across as rude sometimes. It is unintentional

I read something recently that more people than ever are being offended by their bosses when they are asked to do something by email purely because they just type what they want done. With out the niceity of any prefix such as could you or please.

I have to say that I have come to appreciate Paula's postings coz' there is always a unique air of unpredictability about them, even if I may disagree with their content sometimes. One never knows where she will strike next !! :D
So I hope you keep posting stuff that has nothing to do with the forum !!
