A Mountain of Sugar



I will never write the poetry I want

because I seem unable to be that man.


I remain a frustrated, drunken child

whose words never rise above idiot toys.


To know the levels I reached for

beyond the flesh, earth, moon, or star


is the great absence I feel within.

But I strived for that last mighty apex


much like a cockroach scampering

up a mountain of sugar.
