Untitled
I can remember each echo of love I have
been a part of, and remember
their hearts and places.
I remember you when you were desperate for
everything,
continuously intoxicated,
looking to be everywhere at once,
and all things to all people.
You took one I brought home to bed
within a hour after meeting him,
and I knew you would.
Your whole life was ran on a fuel
of ignorance and alcohol,
and now I know
that mine did as well.
I loved all these women
in the only way I knew,
but it seems
I always loved myself more.
And I can see you like you were then,
bleeding in both soul and heart
as you lied on the floor,
your legs spread for him just
for the hell of it.
You were a beautiful woman, I
never
understood it.
You were the mother of everything
worth seeing, and
the waste was profound.
And we wasted away together,
like mad, chaotic fools,
or contrary little children.
There are more, for sure;
I often quietly wonder to myself
where they all are today.
We were the children of an age of ambition,
and we victimized ourselves
in innumerable ways.
Surviving the changes of a restless world
was difficult enough,
but surviving myself was much harder.
I loved all these women
in the only way I knew,
but it seems
I always loved myself more.

Dear J, if I may.....
I just really like your poems. If "too personal" and "therapeutic" are not the preferred in the world of poetry, I really don't care. There is something so lasered-to-the-core and simple about the way you put your thoughts into words, and your words to paper, that I really appreciate. I love honesty.

Personal poetry
It is just my opinion, but I believe that the "personal" element
is present in all good writing. Some writers frown upon the artist
injecting his/her personal life or experiences into their work,
and I have never really understood why.
Anyway, thank you for your kind words.

I, too, think that personal experience is everpresent in all good writing. The degree of visibility varies, of course. But the line of distinction between good poetry and poetry that is "cathartic and cathartic only" does not always follow the level curves of the mentioned visibility.
Thank you, J, for the poems you shared with us, and hopefully for those you will share with us in the future.
Please keep on.

Untitled? 'Echo of Love' seems perfect.
Stripping away all pretentions and self delusion. Brutal honesty. Though I apply honesty as a benchmark to my own writing; I am not sure that I could be this ruthless with writing to reveal myself so. Bravo for the courage to write in such a manner.
