Lady Elisah

LADY ELISAH

He was walking down the avenue that meanders though the pecan forest to the house of the lonesome Lady Elisah
The wind cut around him, throwing brown skinned leaves into the air like circled twirling dancers, dancing as recklessly as seabirds flying helpless, with broken wings under a dark sea storm

Short and crisp and crumbling ‘neath his feet, the fallen leaves offer
no resistance nor surrender, they only snap with tender submit……

The wind called out and ordered the trees to offer themselves to the bosom of its power, they spread their weary arms and fingers and undressed, revealing lines of age.
The sun flashed its copper face and opened up its fiery lips, blowing the breeze from the west, casting gentle fire into the silent air

Woman of charm and a carefree heart
Chocolate eyes and chestnut hair
Slim of waist and sweet of tongue
Sitting in her old oak rocking chair
Her soul torn between rage and hate
Crying with pain over rejection again
Piecing together the fragments of abandoned romance
Staring into the bright sunlight of morning
Holding onto a dream that bleeds into her soul
Her heart pierced by the arrow of sorrow

Quietly praying to be free
From the bonds of love
And the incest of her aristocracy
Weeping into the wilderness of her womb
Eyes seeing visions reaching out from the mist
To the chorus of bells that echo from a wedding march

Rising gracefully filled with the fire of lust
Free from the ache of desire
Feeling safe inside the cupboard that hides a secret love affair

Unaware of the prying stare of envy
Nesting in the eyes of her brother
Who, compelled like a slave
Commanded by the vows of family custom
His discovery he must declare
Rewarded with increased self esteem
Looking for approval from his untrusting, inward father
Smitten by the conspiracy and madness of truth
Empty of emotions
Motivated by the tradition of image
And the desire to maintain ancient family values
He sold Lady Elisah’s secret

Like an angry heavy thunder
Sparks of wrath ignited by fury
From a mind born of tyranny’s age
Her brother spoke with twisted tongue
Words with traitors’ tones
As the forbidden love began to choke
On the smoke of solemn regret

And she fell down on her knees, begging forgiveness
With whispering sobs from a shaky voice
Pleading to love the man she loved
And to be close to the father of her embryo
Her body sank beneath lifeless limbs
Lady Elisah spared her breath

As fury began to rage and howl
She sheltered her eyes so sore
Wearied by her family’s scorn
Sitting in her old oak rocking chair
Suffering their wrath
With condemned pride
Shamed and unbroken sorrow born
Falling asleep under the threat of tomorrow
Dreaming of her garden of lust
Of the tender love both shared and denied
The father of her unborn child
She silently mourned
