They joke
That never saw the lack of humor in things.
They smile,
That yet have lips to smile
(Unlike the lepers
On the sidewalks
Who've lost theirs.)
They smirk
Chocolate milk up through their noses
Who think they get it.
Whereas all they really get
Is the punch line
While all the rest
The 9/10s that's under water
Escapes them completely
Like the myriad little ones
Who fall through the cracks of the system
Every day
On their way to school.

Therefore will it come to pass
That it shall all seem to suck to you,
That once seemed as cute to you
As cat's pajama bottoms,
And gymnast bees' bandaged knees.
For then shall the bee find the buttons on your bottoms
And the cat along with her
And unbuttoned them
And sting you and sting and sting
And scratch here and there
Where you least expect it,
For it is then that you will see
You who have eyes to see
(Unlike the earth worms
On the sidewalk
After a heavy rain
Who have none)
That slipping on a banana peel isn't nearly so funny then
When it's your bottom on the line!

Nah
Nah I don't get it, but I like it, thank you Greg. A cautionary tale of banana peels and a good spanking, mixed with much more sincere and horrifying things. Also the change of style in the centre works remarkably well, it reads fluently right throughout.
Quite scary really, not sure I want to re-read it or go hide under the covers, thanks again.
James.

Almost as much fun as a barrel of monkeys putting on a puppet show.
O ya, until those strings got all wrapped around their limbs and heads.
I wonder. Am I running with scissors, laughing at the stooges, putting a hat on my cat? Could be. Hard to see with only one good eye!
Always enjoy your postings and poems Greg.
You are so thoughtful.
Get it? You got it. You always inspire me to think and you're always a load of laughs!!
(Yuck, yuck, yuck. Or whatever it is that "stooge" did when he smacked the other one in the head while spinning his arms around or something. I never could get that right.)
