On Broken Hill
Another year has almost past, new one on its way
It’s time to leave behind, so many yesterdays
He used to be a man who had nothing much to say
It’s a different story now that time has given him wisdom
His heart was opened, his flesh was warmed
She gave him her breast and he began to feel at ease
So many years to ignore, so many walls to climb
So much time with things undone
Her heart was light as a feather, deeper than a valley
Her breath could make the early morning mist appear
Her love came without warning, he was wearing a blindfold
Her peace took away his armor, he replaced it with honor
He’d seen this all before he told himself
Something slipped his mind
And he fell, fell into her web, like a tattoo on a chest
(I felt so humble as I tried to forget what troubled me
I needed her inside my head, holding my hands
And great change came upon me
Broken and set free, time took care of me)
And performed a great rescue
The rest of it is down to you
Did you feel the change ? Did you see the change ?
Did you taste the change ? Did you change ?
All these years I’ve seen it all through
And been through it all
There comes a time when a man realizes, enough is enough
He sees that time don’t make your heart tough, only suspicious
He knows time cannot erase the fights he has lost and won
He remembers all the things he could never complete
About the time he lived on Broken Hill
And thanks her for giving him the will
To come out on top
He could never pass up the chance
To find some peace at last
To dance and flirt with her
To feel the flutter of a little romance
To walk along the dusty beach, and whisper secrets to the clouds
He found the exit this time round
But he never wants to hide from himself and all things real
She lit him from inside, his heart reached above the ground
Eyes cut through the air, he went down on his knees
Spoke without a sound
He knows that time can never deceive
Those who conform to what their hearts believe
If only he could say to himself
Whatever he had to say
He’d say a word or two
He’d tell the world
He performed a great escape
The rest of it is down to you
On Broken Hill
G'day Phil
I'm glad he found her (or she found him). It is difficult when you grow without someone to share your deepest things with. You can become bitter. But I'm glad he has her now. I'm glad he has her now.
In peace
