To My Beloved - for Deb

Post by Bernard »

I'll give you riches and rags to wear
So you'll never know my poverty

I'll steal fire tonight
To light the candles of your altar where in obedience I worship

I will sing the moon down
So you will always have a mirror for your perfection

I will plunder the stars of the Southern Cross
So you will always have jewels to wear upon your nakedness

I will hunt wolves all winter
So you will always have meat for your table

I will abandon all reason and sanity
So you may know the ecstasy of my love

I will plant giant ghost gums by a river
So there will always be an ediface to your beauty

I will soar upon thermals with pelicans
So your soul will never know the chains of my ignorance

I will dive Pacific depths to bring you the blue pearl
To illumine your realised self

I will snare the lightning of a summer storm
And bring you silver treasures to adorn your mantle

I'll abandon all my beliefs and rituals
So I can partake of truth in your embrace

I will sack the Vatican of superstition
And bring you monks and nuns to be your attendants

I will wage war with the gods of fate
So I may realise my destiny in you - always in you

Jesus Bernard,
you give a new meaning to neo-romanticism!

I think I could have spoken these sentiments once, when I was young and innocent and sweetly idealistic. Now I am not so young, not so sweet and not so innocent. But the romantic in me says "Bravo!" to you.

Of course for me, being a bit of a mystic, and loving the poetry of the mystics, I see the divinity, creation, the tao, yogic union with the infinite and the eneffable in that vision you unfold. But that is just me and my own way of viewing things.
I read into things what I want to and I make no apologies and claim no regrets, as any leigonaire of light would sing and shout!

The great thing about poetry (in this case, your poetry) is it helps the reader (me) reflect, meditate and contemplate their own life and ways... This great snapshot of yours takes me to a place I visit too seldom; so thanks for that. Keep writing. I enjoy the space you leave me in. Regards, M.J.

Dear Bernard,

Your poem to Deb is inspiring. The deft imagery is matched only by your love palpitating from the screen. I'm in agreement with Mat James, you do soar to new heights with this piece - both romantically and for its sheer passion.

Thoroughly enjoyed

Adam
