fly

Post by Geoffrey »

as I was spring-cleaning
this morning I saw a fly
land on suki's plate.
it then extended
its proboscis trunk
and started to suck up
tiny particles of food.
i pointed the nozzle
of my vacuum cleaner
at the insect
and watched it
disappear into the tube.
maybe those astronomers
are onto something -
that one day the universe
will be swallowed
by a black hole.

I enjoyed reading this exercise in intruder control... and the extension to science and astronomy... sorta like how Einstein came by his theories  . It's good to see that Suki is seemingly doing well, too 8) .

Thank you, Lizzy. Do you know Leonard's poem called 'One'? Well, I will print it here - just in case. Plagiarism is considered a compliment, is it not? Let us say mine was written in the same vein.
---------------------------------
One of the lizards
was blowing bubbles
as it did pushups on the tree trunk
I did pushups this morning
on the carpet
and I blew bubbles of Bazooka
last night in the car
I believe the mystics are right
when they say we are all One
[Leonard Cohen: from 'Energy of Slaves']
-----------------------------------
Suki is not completely well; her left eye is still giving me concern. But she has again started to creep beneath the quilt with me in the middle of the night and nestle under my arm. When she stops purring and starts twitching I know that she's dreaming and feels warm and safe.

Hi Geoffrey ~

I love that poem ~ thanks for printing it here. The first part of it is familiar, yet the second portion isn't. Funny thing, memory, from a reading long ago... especially when the second part really 'makes' it. Great job on your using it as a model... first, we're all One and, then, we All get sucked away  .

I'm sorry to hear that Suki is still suffering with that eye. Thanks for your beautiful description of 'a man and his beloved cat'... even more appreciable because, unlike 'many' men, you love them and have a relationship with Suki that only a true cat lover would have. I know exactly what you mean about their signs of wellness. If they only knew... or do they... how much every little one of those means to us.

Love,
Lizzy
