Hidden users?

At the bottom of the main page it lists the current users.
registered and guests I understand but I'm not sure about the hidden users.
As I type now there are 3 hidden users.
Who are they?
How do they get there?

Please satisfy my curiosity.

Pete,
Hidden users are those whose identities are hidden when logged in. I had that option for no particular reason but am changing it now just for the heck of it.
