ode to my motorbike

Post by mat james »

Ode to my motorbike

Symbol of freedom
steed of salvation
slayer of mountains
thump of abandon
moan for this Valhalla vagrant
carry me onward
carry me inward
back to my own throb
back through my own lands
forward
to memories
childhood cauldron churning asunder
brazen to gold this brute through the blue
brazen to gold this Boy in the brute...

is there more to this blood than brute?

Her sidewalk glance
steals a sideways wish...
between blink and breath
she rides...
the beast of blast and moan
if she could catch that Boy
in the man on the bike?
if she could catch that Boy in the man
he could rescue this Girl in the woman...

Throb of freedom
heart
of this hunter
wing that Valkyrie
to this Valhalla cowboy
whip through the wind
sting through the rain
burn through the sun
bathe me in moaning
as you tend to our wounds
carry us inward
carry us onward
back through our own throb
back through our own lands

over the broken line...

through the humming blue.

Hi Mat,

I loved Ode to my motorbike. It leapt out from my screen. I hope it can be published one day in print. I'd buy a copy of Meanjin or Overland just to read it again. You have the gift no doubt. I eagerly look forward to reading more of your work.

Warm regards

thanks Bernard,
I took a look at your poems too and we seem to be surfing the same wave.
Both boys from downunder!
You have got me thinking . Maybe a a motor cycle magazine would like to publish it?
