I'm thinking everybody much be rendered speechless. Just when we thought you could not get any more good looking. I may have to re-think Colin Firth being at the top of my British hunks list... tic tic tic .... Naww.

yes,Laurie, perhaps reaction has been slow as men are awestruck with envy, whilst women are simply dumbstruck with my new look. It is only the 3rd category of being who dares speak of my beauty, so thank you.

I'll assume "3rd category" means an "Alaskan."

Yes. I suppose when nothing else is left, we must turn to our rights...even though they may change in a blink. blink. blink.

Mickie, man, I could vote nothing else other than 'You look great'! You are absolute poetry in distortion!

... and I? ... I think you need a good attorney.

The cosmetics industry has revolutionized your face.

This goes a long way in explaining last Tuesday's piece on the criminal Bar in The Times. They didn't use a picture of you and called you a 'big beast'. Perhaps a few good studio shots are in order?

well spotted! actually, there is a real story behind why they highlighted the 3 Silks in that article.

btw there is also a real story as to why I haven't (yet) spent a minute on the poetry comp.

Well I'D like to know what it is, as I'm seriously hoping for a deluge of last-minute entries. I have not received that many!

I find these comps. do need a bit of rabble-rousing to schlep in the entries. Immediately start new threads of cajoling, bribery, blackmail etc. If you need personalised threats, pleas feel free to contact me. I have files on everyone who has ever posted here although, sadly, most of their lives are just as dull as mine.

My excuse is that I have been changing everything in the last few weeks, home, socks, Life, etc.

No excuse there. I'm sure in the move, you came across a love letter as old as your socks. Perhaps, just as odoriferous. In ignoring that, you've bypassed no fewer than a dozen, good poems.

Get writing.

Micheal, bad time for the photographer to come around, when you had just bitten into a raw chilli.

I thought that all that wandering on the moor in snow-bound Dartmoor last week would have made a poet of me. But my fledgling poems have turned out not to be about old love letters.

And now I know why: Last night I serendipitously came across a piece about poetry by Hugo Williams in the culture magazine of the Sunday paper. He says:
Not knowing what you're writing about is the great thrill of poetry. That and finding out... Start telling your material what it's supposed to mean and you kill both of you.
What you need is a beginning and an ending, that'll give you some idea of how to proceed. Filling in the middle is the hardest part. You don't know what order everything's in, because you don't know what the poem's about yet.
I am finding that I have no idea what I am writing about until I have written it. But I am normal after all. Thanks for the trouble you took from my eyes, Mr Williams.

Now, how many poems will I have to write before I pen one that happens to be about old love letters  ?

Only one, by 11 PM EST tonight [now corrected to Tuesday night], Diane ~ good, bad, or otherwise... or substitute some words that are superfluous with "old love letter" and submit it  . I won't go into ALL the reasons why :P .

See you by 11:00.
