When I was working in L.A. years ago a friend of mine pointed out a guy that he knew at a party we attended together. This guy had a dog that worked on a few shows and also had a dog food commercial contract. As it was he lived off the dogs earnings and my friend said he was an obnoxious drunk and I got to see it first hand. Now here thirty years later I finally sat down last few nights and wrote a kind of drinking song in his memory.Its my dog who pays the rent
he sleeps in a great big waterbed
I sleep on the floor just like I did the night before
and I jump into the car when he hollers
he takes me into town for a drink to the only place that'll serve a guy like me
and the dog he always drinks for free
the dog he got it better than me
he gets scraps from every table
he always eats for free
I get get into scraps at every table
and I get the whiskey dents that you see
Oh.. my car is full of whiskey dents from driving
through the neighbors fence
I really don't think that he likes me
and this town wants to put a chain on me
and the dog...is the only one...who's ever kissed me.
