It serves you right to suffer, you snake,
I pray that disaster leaves you undone.
I have endured somehow but still take
the full measure of you as you run,

fleeing from any semblance of growth,
resisting any effort made to change.
You are free from mercy and so loath
yourself in ways violent and strange.

It serves you right to suffer, I excuse
nothing at all because of your condition.
Your miseries were often self-induced,
you rarely made a meaningful decision.

It was your choice to live in such a way,
but I must now take a different road.
It serves you right to suffer and repay
us for how often we carried the load.
