Re: A poetry contest for you
no offense intended towards you, but allpoetry is one of the weakest poetry sites on the net, the quality is generally awful and contributors are misled by indiscriminate praise. I "discovered" it when we had a poster here, The Hallmark Lady as she was known. Prizes are won for rhyming blue and you.
in contrast, for anyone keen to learn, try Egoless at http://www.firesides.net/egoless.htm

Thanks for your info guys!
No offense done, in the contrary.
Mickey_one, you probably are more skilled than the average posters of this site, probably you would lost you time on this site.
The beauty of the thing I find there is 'cause it is the lieu of expressing all kinds of emotions - usually not expressed elsewhere, and well, emotions have to be recognized somewhere, and it is also a site without pretention and for beginners to test these waters.
For beginners it can be more harmful to be submitted to a too severe critic than to be praised for having write "when I got the blue I search for you, in these waters of turquoise you are my precious tortoise" (he he he) kind of sort. Butterfly wings are fragile things. Nevertheless they fly over oceans. Unless they have been handled too... not enough... you know. Too sternly. Some freudian would say "castration". Well I see this like martial art, you have to begin and pass eventualy to higher grades when you are ready.
Anyway, thanks a lot to provide other links that can suit to more people.

yeah, i once succumbed to allpoetry.com several years ago when i was in high school. i sent like 3 things in and got letters in the mail saying how great they were, but they all said the same thing for each poem i sent in. i'm like, "this is all bullshit. there's money involved in here somewhere and i really don't care to be a part of it."
"Rock and roll is dead, but I am its revival. I'm prophesied by sages died, from Buddha to the Bible." --TERATOGEN

T, I see better now what you both meant about the wickness of the site. It is like receiving a letter saying "I am not interested by what you wrote. Dummy, euh, Buddy". It is worst than a true "bad" comment done in a positive way. This is what is happening when the robot is answering the mail.
It does not excuse them. They may have think to a better automatic acknowledgment of receipt.
Maybe some people take it just for what it is and are not too much worry, The important thing being havnig a place to post poems and/or emotions, and share with others.
Nevertheless I must say, to be just, that I read some good poems on this site. There is a lot of stuff... phew... too much, I can not read ALL. And I thought that the real quality of the site is made of the stuff the poets are posting, not how the administrators of the site are managing it. This one.
For the contest, well... a winning poem is a winning poem, and if the price is money, it is not so bad.
Even if it is like a lotery ticket as per you Mickey.
Well, if this link is just the beginning for you people to share other contests sites and sites in this style, that may be more suiting for you guys over here, it will be all the best.
