Sideways

Post by Steven »

Some of you have seen the (very good, i.m.o.) movie "Sideways."
Some nice dialogue there about wine maturing to its peak
of perfection.

There are some Leonard classics that continue to grow richer
through years of continued listening. I wonder if if this experience
is paralled in the creator's own performing and listening experience.
They arose out of his (Leonard's) own internal life as it was in
the past. How do the words speak to him now and have they past
prime and like a wine held too long are they declining in terms of
the quality of his own subjective experience?

Hi Sylvia,

While I don't see decline in Leonard's artistic ability, I don't know
how he, himself, relates to his classic, earlier works. Perhaps
they're even more poignant to him now. Performers sometimes continue
to keep material around because their audiences want them to
(not saying that this is the case for him).

Which album was released in 2002?

Just wanted to drop a line: Sideways is the best film I have seen in years.

I'm still waiting for Death of a Ladies' Man to reach a nice bouquet.
never could stand that dog...

I saw this movie last night it was great.
I have often wondered (and if I ever got the chance would love to ask him) if asked to sing his favorite song wich he would pick. I often think it would be one of his new ones, thinking that he put time and effort in creating something that reflects his spirit today. But I would love to here that it was one of his old songs that grows more true to him every year and better all the time. like maybe Susan.

You mean "Suzanne"? Oh, dear, if you did ~ you don't know what you may have started   ~ however, if you did, I can't imagine that would be the one he'd choose -- for many, many reasons.
