We bleed for you
Take me with your luscious lies
Take me with those practised sighs
Take me with both hooded eyes
Take me with dramatic cries
Take me down where I belong
Take me on a siren’s song
Take me to the hornets’ nest
Take me through my offered chest
Take me passed what I’ve become
Take me and you choose the sum
Take me by the lawyers’ writ
Take me and take all of it
Take me for the cent and dollar
Take me
Take me
They took me
This came out of a conversation I had recently about lc.
We bleed for you

"Bipolar is a roller-coaster ride without a seat belt. One day you're flying with the fireworks; for the next month you're being scraped off the trolley" I said that.

Heh! Pretty good. I'd not have thought of that.

Only just found this video of LC:

A very close friend used the word 'shafted' in our discussion of the ills that have befallen lc. I am too much of a gentleman to use such language about the predicament we are all watching unfold. However, there is a certain frisson embedded in 'that' word, which transcends oceans of understanding. So I didn't use 'that' word 'there', but I'm happy to use it 'here.'
Thanks for the responses ladies.

Hi Byron ~
Is "shafted" considered a profane word over there? Here, it's just a very descriptive word that brings with it the strong essence of negative action. It is a word that could be used any time, anywhere, without a second thought. There was a term that Phil immediately clued me in on upon my arrival [before we even exited the airport] ~ you never know
.
I really like your repetition of the "Take me"s ~ very effective being coupled with the actions of others, and leading down the page to "They took me." Your title choice is very apt.

1) shafted is a profanity inflicted on/in one by other(s).
2) Take me echoes to the end of love and is intended as an echo of his canon of work reflected in a poetic summary of his life and the exposed betrayal of loves/friendships. Or to put it another way, turning the concepts of art reflecting life, into, this stage of his life and us seeing his life as it is now, reflecting the art he has produced through his working life.

Ah, okay. Here "shafted" is a generic term for intensely screwing over someone, but not with any literal, sexual correlations. Its meaning is more benign in that sense than yours. We had the movie here "Shaft" for one thing. Isaac Hayes with the title song, etc.
Yes, I did get the "Take me" correlation to "the end of love" and the progression through Leonard's life, with those ultimate betrayals. You really worked it well. It's good to see you writing/posting more serious poetry here, again. You really explore the depths when you choose to.
