I was planting trees.
I admit it was wrong,
and I’m sorry for my dedication.
But you see,
that same urge is killing you also.
I was planting trees.

Tri-me,
I come to poetry often, and I enjoy most of the poetry that is posted here. I like to comment on it, but frankly, I don't know much about the 'stucture' of poetry, so in short, I don't know what I'm talking about.
I often would like to ask a question as directly as you just did, but think that the poet would take 'offence' or that I might look as though I'm 'way out of my depth' becasue I feel that the entire board knows exactly what the poet had intended with a certain phrase. But, it's not always so clear me. Thanks for 'opening the door' for me, in that regard. I'll just give this a whirl.
Linda.

Atom Heart,
If you read my post to Tri-me, you'll perhaps understand that poetry is not an easy thing to 'understand' sometimes (often, for me). If you could maybe talk a little about how and why you put this poem together as you did. If you don't want to talk about its meaning, that's OK, but I'm interested in the way in which you phrased it in the way you did. And yes, the metaphors. So, I guess a little background on its meaning would help after all.
Thanks,
Linda.

I don't write poems and really appreciate the poets that submit their work. One day a poem will come to me, presently my brain does not write this way it would be a good thing for me to grow some new grey matter.
I like how this poem has a twist at the end. Looking forward to the reply, but of course, the artist has the perogative to keep us wondering.

Thank you for reading my post.
I imagine you could say that 'planting trees' is making a reference to
an act one commits that is wholly good, yet at a time when there are more pressing issues.
But I suppose this means many things that are hard to elaborate in this fashion.
Quite honestly, I've never felt that any of the inventions of dead people should ever really pervade another person's work. The problem with all creative fields is that we simply live within a box because the forces outside seem odd and cruel. Ridicule and uncertainty has destoyed more art than all the wars and fires in the history of our species.
I would suggest that structure is simply an impediment.
Regards.

Atom Heart,
Thanks for answering the questions both Tri-me and myself asked.
Yet, I do recognize the beauty of a poem that keeps to a set pattern. The art in composing poetry in that fashion is much more difficult, making it a true challenge. Hmm. So, I'm sort of half and half on the structure part of it (like I said, I know nothing about poetry), but I appreciate those that write it and the poems themselves. Thanks for your contribution.

I would agree with both statements. Criticism from those that know nothing can destroy an artists' confidence, thereby destroying the impetus to create more art. Some would say that it is the constraints that make poetry, 'poetry'. I think that those constraints can impede one from exploring their thoughts.Atom Heart wrote:Ridicule and uncertainty has destoyed more art than all the wars and fires in the history of our species.
