Because it was released like five days ago and it's not available yet? Wait a few days, and watch updates on her site and Amazon.

I had the opportunity to get Perla Batalla's CD. It is extraordinary, her voice, the musical arrangements ... I like it very much. I think it is fundamental.
It has written very much about "Dance ..." of Madeleine Peyroux, of course a great song, but that of Perla Batalla seems to me more interesting. In the first rhyme there exists an atmosphere of deep respect and pain of these people who walked towards the death.
I observed in this disc a great knowledge and admiration towards the Cohen's work.
Highly recommended!!

I've had this disc for quite a while now. It was a gift from a good friend. I was surprised to learn that it's actually Julie who has the higher pitched voice, as her 'Joan of Arc' sounds much like Joan Baez.
What I like about Perla is that the she can find the 'true melody' straight thru whatever instrumentation is behind her. I've always admired singers, and how they can stay on the note, or find the melody line, regardless of where the band is in their own instrumentation.
I enjoyed this a lot, and recommend it also. Julie and Perla seem to be perfect foils for one another, and naturally, they back Leonard so divinely. My favourite, though, is Famous Blue Raincoat, by Jennifer Warnes, her voice is just sublime.
Leonard has very craftily picked the perfect female vocalists. They blend with his voice so seamlessly. Anyone know if Sharon has her own disc? I like her 'deep, warm singing tone' but not her production style.
Regards,
Linda.

Lat news heard from Sharon (that was around Xmas) was that her first CD is still on the way (her new solo songs plus two old gems she co-wrote with LC). Her latest song The High Road (click for free download) was sold to Bettye LaVette; it's small masterpiece.

Thanks for the info, Tom. I clicked for free download. Haven't listened yet, but I'm sure it's great. I don't think I was around much last Christmas, but I do remember Shane recommending (I think it was Shane), Bettye LaVette. The cover is certainly evocative of the old blues style. But, of course, you can't tell a CD by its jewel case. Looking forward to what I hear. And am looking forward to Sharon's release. When it comes due. That group seems to take their time about things, don't they?
See you
Linda.

Yes, me again. Through that link I was led to 'cool women vocalists'. There were a couple by Feist, whom I remember you liking. And a number of others, although I'm not familiar with most. I know Corrine Bailey Rae, but not KT Tunstall or Susheela Raman. The name Amy Millan rings a bell, but I'm not familiar with her either. I'm really missing out on a lot here. I love a good female vocal. I should check in more often. Thanks.
Yes, Betttye LaVette was recommended by Shane... Of others, I heard only for KT Tunstall; I think that Margaret has some connections with her

Actually, it was in the same thread "September 2005 Playlist" where Shane recommended Bettye and where we talked about his avatar:-) Here's direct link to the moment when we learn that Margaret works with KT Tunstall's aunt

I was wondering about it since it came to shops... First, it's Beth Orton from Hall Wilner's shows... And it has keyword "stranger" in its title
