is the world going some place?
i think that the world is going somewhere to a conclusive "mission acomplished" sorta state of reality where the natural order of things will lead

Re: is the world is going some place?
this is a very basic ,simple question.im not trying to be philisophical, i think if someone lives on this planet, they should be amazed by many things and left uncomfortable with ignorance of the four corners around them and the land upon which we stand!even when science attemps to answer these q.s with their theorys,it lacks the emotion that one feels when they see a loved one after a long time etc...and if we wait long enough, sooner or later it most probably then not will be revised or dispoven.

Hi Elazar I didn't vote because none of the options suited. What happened to option 2?
I think if we don't as a planet start getting back to basics there will be no planet for our childrens children. We are under constant threat from religious fanatics. The ozone is being depleted and it seems world leaders just talk. Except for Dubya who wants to blow up the world. At present we are on a collision course for war. We have desecrated the fish stock around the UK waters to such a degree cod which used to be plentiful is struggling. Tigers are in danger of becoming extinct as are Panda and countless other species are struggling for survival. Children are starving in third world countries while in other countries there are food mountains and obesity is a way of life. None of this is fair. What is the answer.
We in England are at present waiting to get gassed on the London Underground by Al Queda or blown up by the IRA. Going to work is a minefield, train stations get shut by bomb scares, roads get closed when people leave cars unattended in case there is a bomb there. The world needs healing.
We need to get rid of all the liberal do-gooders who think you need to help the perperator more than the victim and loads of other things, we need to give our children hope. I could go on - you touched a nerve, Sorry I will get off my soap box.

the pessemists always inhibit progress
the world, real time, may be in a sorry state, granted.but with the tools of communication, medicine, technology etc...we have the amazing unprecedented ability to see the "world view"and make the appropriate
adjustments when and where they are needed.this is all hypathetical, unfortunately.so why,one might ask are we going down the road of self destuction?the industrialist knows better than i do the contamination that seaps into the atmosphere by their doings.they see the damage.yet for some strange reason(money?) they (not to generalize, but most)
continue without skipping a beat.the religious extremist doesnt "get it"at all.imagine if the resources,the networks,the effort,that goes into a 9/11
would be used for goodness and world preservation or what have you?
the blind devotion to a cause?imagine!the bleeding heart liberal gos to great lengths to find merit and exceptence for all that represents evil
and baseness.crass, intolerable dimentions within the world, within ourselve suddenly are A.OK.so why condemn?why stifle the creativity of
terrorists etc?this is all passè .so what then?a re-education needs to take place to ourselves and our young people.to see the potential of goodness that inhabits all realms, just begging to be utilized,to be dusted off and put on the kitchen table.
that if one person were to get up with the "till death"devotion to do good and infest goodness in the world, who can predict the effect?who can determine the size of such an onslaught?in a world where politics and money reign supreme can this happen?yes but like i said we need a new atitidude to the world and ourselves and its/our potential.now to get off the soap box and take a breath of poluted air

Dear Elazar,
It does not appear to me that we are in a self-correcting mode.....however, I will probably always remain open to that possibility. With a hard-right turn toward spirituality and honouring each other, including our animals and the earth, we could pull ourselves out. My belief. This would include those in power, with the greed, ego, and control issues, however; the numbers do not appear to be in our favour.

the goodness is there!
yes its true that when a you do a good deed it doesnt make the front pages of the Times, and a evil sniper does.there is in my opinion much more good then evil in this world at this day and age yet its concealed or hypathetical.there it is,waiting to be tapped of its unlimited, unfaltering resources to revolutionize the planet.

dear lizzy,
i would ask you the same question in fact i would ask this question
to the conscienceness of every human.my personal answer would be that
we have to radicaly change our focus, from bad to good.when i was in n.y.
at ground zero, shortly after 9/11,someone asked me what i though about our attack on afghanistan,at ground zero.i just stated the obvious.that our focus shouldnt be to kill every last al quada member or taliban and then pack up our gear and leave.we should develope the place to accomidate the people there and leave the place in order.this is what became the focus, naturaly.
so i think we allready know what has to be done.so what change has to be made?how to battle the evil, the destructive forces in the world,in ourselves?by doing good,on a grand scale.and publicizing it of course.
feel the real pleasure of doing good.get addicted to that feeling.share this with others.allow the youth to join in.there is the parable of the man who wanted to change the world ,after a few years he felt drained and useless
so he decided he'll change one continent.looking back a few years later he realized he accomplished nothing so he decided to change his province
and then later he decided to change his city.afer many futile years, this man decided he'll change his family.this was difficult!so finaly after a long time,he decided to change himself.his family became aware of the changes he did and were curious.they liked the changes and decided to change too.and so on untill the world was changed,on a grand scale.i guess this is a slow tedious way to make change, but i think the point is made.now what i said before about the pleasure of good might work i dont know.what do you think?well thats my very large two cents for now ill pass over the floor to you.

Dear Elazar,
I agree with you on Afghanistan, Al quada, Taliban, and international relations. I can understand how this question is a compelling one for you, after your being at Ground Zero so closely following the horrific events. Not to say that it wasn't previously so, however, September 11 no doubt increased the intensity of your questioning.
It's a beautiful and true parable, for the reality is that it's a dang-near-impossible task to merely change ourselves. Ask any dieter, alcoholic, chocoholic ~ and if one doesn't fall within that list, there are enough other vices and addictions to go around. We all have them, at least one. Considering another reality, that of energy, and how we literally create our own realities, via our thoughts and actions ~ your parable has possibilities
.
Whether that line of thinking is too "pollyanna" is another matter, for example, is there enough time for that domino effect to take place before we self-destruct or whatever....or how do a sufficient number of people begin to act accordingly [would so many per town and country accomplish the goal ~ do we need to assign people to their positive posts?] and will they stay on track? The questions are many and daunting. To consider this a panacea is so appealing, so much moreso than what we're faced with as we look out at the world. If nothing else, we can individually die trying, knowing that we at least did what was within our own power.

to make a peacefull revolution, like Ghandi did,was great.the berlin wall coming down, nice.i can probably count on fingers and maybe toes all the grand acts of good that our public conscience has observed.yet the deficit
of "newsworthy"good in the recent times,or the very minute amount of it,
strikes a cord.the cycle of killings, destruction and what have you continues
unabated.how can we bring goodness to the forefront?how to triumph in our continued exsistance?i think this may be a task that will require all
the planning,co-operation,dedication,etc.of a countable team or group.
if this is reminicent of the '60s peace cults i degress.whatever may be,
something must get done.if we work on changing ourselves will there be an effect?of course.but i think we also need a fast paced plan to infect this "awareness"of good.and the absolute need for it,lest we perish!
the comical old man with his sign"the end is near"is frighteningly sobering, when one observes the world today.ok ive spoken way too much i should be fined.

Retire video games, so that many young and some older people can begin to relate to each other rather than to figures on a screen [often immersed in violence], which overdevelops the non-emotional, non-compassionate, etc. side of the brain....and isolates them one from another. Resurrect the art of conversation ~ beginning at the family dinner table, where people sit down to eat and talk about their day and [even
] ideas. Focus on the positive in others and remember the negative is in you, as well. Stay in tune with the difference in how you feel when someone says something positive about you, as opposed to negative, and remember they most likely react the same way. Sing more ~ better yet, sing with each other. With musical instruments or not ~ makes no difference. Go to the animal shelter and give an animal destined to die a loving home. A cat's purr has been scientifically found to be at the optimum healing frequency. A friend of mine e-mailed me the article. It's not that long, and if you like, I'll type and send it to you privately. I participate in the Dances of Universal Peace, which hold to the premise that peace begins within and emanates outward. Try to regain our awareness of our own essence, long since squashed through the culturation process. The list is long.
As for organization, we first will need to wade through the apathy and self-centeredness that much of the free world has lapsed into over the past several decades. There are action groups out there, but how many join, how many contribute? Unfortunately, I only contribute. There's room for improvement right there. Having been a sixties person, I miss the feeling that prevailed [at least amongst the young] during those years. For organization at this point, I suggest you
coordinate something ~ and isn't that what everyone always says ~ and I will join. If we could get the attention and agreement of world leaders that in itself would do much [or so I seem to think].
I don't know. I wish I did.
Regarding being fined, the topic police may be along any minute now, as well

I agree that fundamentally people err towards the side of good rather than
evil. Circumstances tend to cause people to veer off course, I don't believe
that many people are born evil, there are exceptions, Hitler, Saddam Hussain,
Vlad the Impaler etc etc but most people who fall off the wagon are caught up
with circumstances. When you are cold, hungry, desolate and feel hopeless you
do what you must to survive. It is not for us to judge until we have spent a
day in their shoes.
You are so right Elazar the potential for regenerated and renewing the world has
never been so great with the technology at our disposal. In my lifetime amazing
things have become possible that can be used for the benefit of mankind,
unfortunately also in my lifetime weapons of mass destruction has also become
available to countries which at the very least are volatile. The sad thing is
the generation which is causing this is largely my generation the "baby boomers"
the portenders of peace - how ironic is that.
The planet is in trust to us it has been passed to us largely unscathed from our
forefathers and we hold it in trust for future generations. With the
capabilities we have now we can destroy this world within the time God created
it. (If you believe in God).
I like you believe there is more good than bad.
