Hi G.
I know I've said it before but you are super talented!
Love the picture; a great way to spend 5 minutes...
Hope you are well.

i am quite well, thank you - as indeed i hope are you. you compliment me with a most charitable comment, dear karren - one that will long be cherished within the innermost chamber of a heart undernourished by such lavish praise. incidentally, the sketch was made immediately following breakfast today, while imbibing the first of two glassfuls of lindeman's chardonnay. at the present time i am sipping my third glassful of o'mara's irish country cream, each enhanced with a generous dash of thor heyerdahl's cognac - just to provide a little extra substance. i didn't used to drink alcohol, but have become fed up with being the only one who is good all the time. xxKarren B wrote:Hi G.

That guy looks familiar, but his name escapes me. Bob something? Am I close?
Hey Geoffrey, nice to see you around these parts again, and glad that your creativity seems to be flowing again (or is it the alcohol that is doing most of the flowing?
). Indeed, sainthood gets to be rather tiresome, as I know only too well, but I have yet to figure out how to avoid its perils. It is said that alcohol consumption merely enhances a person's genuine character, by removing inhibitions and allowing one's true colours to burst forth. Therefore, if a genuinely good person is tired of being good all the time, then it seems as though alcohol will not remedy the situation and in fact, may only exacerbate it: after a few drinks, walking on water cannot be far behind for such an individual as you.
All the best!

Re: 5-minute sketch
Glad to know you are well G. I didn’t have a good start to the year but I’m fine now.
My compliment was not given out of charity (I'm not that charitable), but out of admiration. You are very talented; but you already know that…
I hope you had a late breakfast yesterday; I don’t like to think of you pouring Chardonnay on your cornflakes. I myself prefer my wine red, my Whisky Scottish and my brandy French (not familiar with the Thor brand), but like you I never really drink [puts hand up to nose to check that it's not grown]
and I’m always good, especially when I’m very bad…
Despite what LisaLCfan says, don't try walking on water whilst under the influence, it's an overrated pastime of the righteous.
Once again I love the picture, and the video is great, and I am hoping this is the start of your Dylan period?????
Take care Geoffrey

Re: 5-minute sketch
thank you, lisa & karren, for taking the time to give feedback on an attempt to make a picture; my apartment is littered with these things. i grew up in a small west country village of 300 people, and looked forward every saturday to working at a stable. often i was asked to take one of the horses for a ride, a request gladly accepted. for an hour or two it was just myself and a horse, riding through the countryside, the beautiful nature - my favourite area being a place called uley bury. this is probably why, like lisa, leonard's song about the absent mare holds such a fascination for me. so, here is another poor effort at drawing a horse, inspired by leonard's "did he dream, was it she who went galloping past". please feel no obligation to use more time on me by commenting, as i am sure you have more important things to do - and i know it's not really very good. wishing you both a happy sunday

she looks like a very happy and free horse G.
The quick Dylan sketch is impressive. It amazes me how much detail comes through.

hei cate. thank you, and there seems to live an undeniably attractive elegance within these equine creatures.

amazes me too, but as i've said before: i take no credit for it. it is obvious to me that there is some kind of divine force that takes control whenever i feel creative. how lovely it would be if i could draw or paint an image that was less than an outstanding example of brilliance, because my atheistic views take a tumble whenever i stand back and look at the fantastic results of my craftsmanship. the pictures before me are all so unmistakably the work of a supreme being.

it's funny, you never struck me as an atheist - didn't you like extra wings on those poor angels from Death of a Ladies Man (you were probably joking and I hadn't figured that out yet)

Nice picture, Geoffers.

Indeed, they are beautiful. As are most animals, there is an innocence about them, a purity, a gentleness, something to which we, as human beings, ought to aspire. I once watched a deer frolicking in the woods: I was in a tent looking through a small screened window, and it did not know that I was there. It leapt and bounded with the sheer enthusiasm of life, all alone but enjoying itself as it made its way through the woods. It was one of the most magical things I have ever seen, a delicate creature simply being everything that it could be in that moment, at one with its surroundings, and loving it. Your painting of that horse reminds me of that day, and of that beautiful, elegant deer frolicking outside my tent, which I have never forgot.Geoffrey wrote:...there seems to live an undeniably attractive elegance within these equine creatures...

Re: 5-minute sketch
good to know that my painting reminded you of such a pleasant experience, lisa. there are a lot of deer where i live, we see them mostly at twilight, or during the winter when they come to residential areas looking for food. yes, they move so silently, so gracefully. they do carry lots of fleas, and eat flowers people put on graves, so there is an annual hunting season. people with rifles are allowed to kill (they use the nice word 'cull') a certain number of them, as that keeps their population down.LisaLCFan wrote:Indeed, they are beautiful. Yes, unfortunately that happens in many urban areas, when the wildlife encroaches upon human habitats. Lucky for people, I guess, that the wildlife never had rifles when humans encroached on their habitat.Geoffrey wrote:... people with rifles are allowed to kill (they use the nice word 'cull') a certain number of them, as that keeps their population down...
