me too, pretty cool - huh? as an intuitive i am convinced leonard sees and appreciates all these masterpieces. he must be thrilled, blesses the day i was born, worships the very ground i walk on. in years to come these paintings will be known as 'the cohen portrait collection', and people with foresight fortunate enough to have invested in one of the original paintings will pass it down from generation to generation - a precious family heirloom. so here i am making history today, a future 'old master' entertaining the lucky members of this forum with truly wonderful works of art precisely as they are created. what joy i bring! what a story for their as yet unborn great grandchildren to proudly share with friends and acquaintances: "believe it or not but one of my distant relatives actually interacted with the great cohen portraitist geoffrey wren!" would it not be ironic if this series of pictures outlived leonard's own work! is it unthinkable that long after the music of a bygone singer has been forgotten, portraits of the man could continue to accrue respect and awe in the art world? well, just saying.

Here is where my insecurity comes in in posting and I might make a fool of myself, but I don't understand this. I do love this artwork of yours, but were you 'nine years old' when you did this, or, was this a portrait of LC at 'nine years old'? Please forgive my ignorance

there is no need to feel foolish or insecure, dear mary. you give the impression of being a genuinely pleasant and honest lady. the picture to which you refer was done yesterday afternoon, from a photo of leonard taken when he was a young lad. it was never meant to be anything other than a sort of 'doodle'; i was just messing around.

Thank you soooo much for the explanation Geoffrey :D

In my early years, I was an art student. I wasn't bad, but there were so many others that were blessed with so much more talent. You are one of those. This is much more than a 'doodle'. I love when you share your artwork with us - even more because of your subject matter ;-) :D

I think the subject line may also be a reference to the song "Story of Isaac", which has the lyric, "I was nine years old"...

Marvellous picture, Geoffrey, as usual! And, as usual, I was quite taken by your humility in your earlier post -- good to see that all your talent has not gone to your head! ;-)

thank you, lisa. it was actually just an effort to amuse myself during a period of boredom.

sarcasm may be the lowest form of wit, but makes me smile nevertheless! yes, i can understand some people may have interpreted my message as boastful. that could be a reflection of our culture of envy, could it not? it is ok to win a gold medal for achievement, but not ok to wear it around the town.

Of course it does, because it is funny! To finish Wilde's famous quote (if he did, indeed, say it), sarcasm is also "the highest form of intelligence"! In fact, numerous scholarly studies have shown that those who use and understand sarcasm are not only more intelligent than those who don't, but they are more creative, because sarcasm involves abstract and quick thinking in unexpected situations and contexts, which is a skill certainly not possessed by all. :)

correct. another famous oscar wilde quote, if indeed he did say it, comes from when he was asked by new york customs if he had anything to declare. (i am sure you know this.) he replied "nothing except my genius!" i doubt he was either being sarcastic or boastful - merely honest. it seems he and i have much common ground ;-)

indeed. i wonder sometimes if quotations attributed to famous people really were spoken by them. what makes me suspicious is that i know how easy it is to put words in another person's mouth. for example, at the bottom of a sketch i did of leonard a few years ago i quoted something he'd said to me. the drawing was on facebook for a long time, and everyone believed it to be true. the fact is that leonard never uttered those words at all, they were something i had dreamed up myself. i just thought it was something he would have said if he'd thought of it first. but my point is that i am surely not the only person who has done something like this, would everyone not agree?

Geoffrey, That does sound like something Leonard would say. Congratulations for thinking of it first.
