Traveling Mercies

Post by jarkko »

Traveling Mercies is covering "If it be your will" on their album
Road to you (USA 2004).

From http://www.travelingmercies.com :

Since their first performance in October of ’99, Traveling Mercies has brought audiences to their feet in churches, cafés and community events. The Salt Lake City based band has been described as “Christian folk-rock seasoned with a dash of country and a splash of groove.”

Experience Traveling Mercies live and you’ll realize that this is no ordinary Christian band. Gut-level responses for people who have heard TM range from triumphant to tearful and from longing to laughter. These feelings come from the music – written mostly by lead singer/rhythm guitarist Mary Goldring - melodic and sweet or loud, crunchy and fun. The joy of TM also rises from a sense that the 4 people on stage really connect – not just musically but emotionally. Audience members get to share in that connection.

The music of Traveling Mercies is nothing without the honesty and passion of its players: band co-founder Eric Lindquist on bass, Dan Salini on electric/steel guitar and fiddle and Pat Young on drums. Their diverse influences offer something for every generation: a hint-of-Hendrix, a dose of The Beatles, David Wilcox and Mary Chapin-Carpenter with a nod to folk singer-songwriter Wendy Waldman and alt-country legends Buddy and Julie Miller.

“ . . . [lead singer Mary Goldring]’s voice has a 60’s quality to it, but there are also times I hear a bit of Ann Wilson when Ann sang some of the mellower Heart songs. There's a country flavor on some tracks, especially ones that feature the steel guitar, but I also hear some modern AAA sounds along the lines of what Dido is doing these days. By the way, I love the groove and organ fills on ‘In Your Presence.’” (Bob Baker – Bob Baker’s Musical Success Resource Guide)

“Her compositions are clever and varied, her singing earthy and honest . . . a touch of Joni Mitchell here, a bit of Paul Simon there – but never enough to make her music derivative.”(The Deseret News
