Still The Nights Are Cold.

Post by DennisZ »

STILL THE NIGHTS ARE COLD.

You went away one day
and I went on behind;
You told me what's to come
was no more your concern -
But when the nights are cold
and I can't find no sleep,
I'm thinking still of you,
until it's got too deep -

Sometimes the nights are cold,
sometimes I do not care -
Sometimes I get your letters out
and see you everywhere -

You left me with a Song,
some lines you wrote for me,
borrowed from a piece
of flawless Poetry -
I read them back at home,
pretended to give in,
until I learned to live
oblivious of them -

Sometimes I am nostalgic, though,
sometimes I do not care -
That' when the nights are cold enough
to lead me anywhere -

Been going thru the motions,
rehearsing all my chores,
Lived in the expectation
of what would not occur -
Ah, stuck inside a Discipline
my Masters left to me:
Repeating all their Lessons
of ugly Mysteries -

Sometimes the nights are cold though,
and I am not that strong -
Still did what I 've been taught to do,
but that is not enough;

You went away one day
and I went on along;
You said I've taught you all,
ain't nothing more to learn;
I know now you've been right,
I know now I've been wrong-
And we live on our lives,
but still the nights are cold -

Oh, still the nights are cold
and I'm not strong enough -
Sometimes I wake up by myself
and still can feel your touch -

Yeah, still the nights are cold,
and still we get along -
But sometimes I remember you
and all we left beyond.

Dennis,

I thank you for your honesty and your guts. I like your poem and its beat. I also thank you for reminding me of my lost love. I've been pretty good at denying her for some time now, and it's kinda like you just pulled the rug from under my feet. She's still in my heart.

Thanks,
Boss
