Leonard and Spanish?

I've been watching this interview from San Sebastian in 1988: http://youtu.be/7uBsC2BKUdQ and it finally dawned on me that there doesn't seem to be an interpreter into English for Leonard. Is his passive (reading/listening) knowledge of Spanish that good?
