Over the years Bob Dylan has been releasing the wonderful 'Bootleg Series' with outtakes, unreleased material and live tracks.

It's high time that the obvious tracks that were circulating in the Nineties got an official release. Off the top of my head...

They could also include:

The John Peel BBC sessions, and (if we're really lucky) the tracks that Sylvie Simmons mentions in her book, plus the concert at the mental hospital (all of these are of particular historical interest).

If they dare, they could include the live "Diamonds in the Mine" ("I told you this in the days of Vietnam etc...). Plus it wouldn't hurt to include:

Do I Have To Dance All Night
Never Any Good

Apart from the odd title that I've no doubt overlooked, that's most of the key rarer material covered. Personally, I don't need endless repletion of live stuff, but there's a version of "Sisters of Mercy" with Raffi Hakopian on violin that is particularly exquisite, and should be included.

You're missing the point.
I am suggesting an official album, with the best quality rareities and hidden gems in proper packaging. There will be stuff in the vaults that none of us has.
It would be great to hear those duets with Bob Dylan, for example.

I wonder whether he's too much of a 'perfectionist' to feel comfortable about such a release.

No I get your point, the problem is with your wording of "bootleg" .

All the ones I mentioned are as such and bootleg cd's.

Dyan's bootlegs are legendary and are mainly from his never ending tour, much the same as the ones I mentioned for LC.

If you want an official album, then it won't be a bootleg.....

Thanks for the suggestion and I am fully aware of Bobness and his "bootleg" series, I have a few but in the case you mention, I think Columbia/Sony have taken a right liberty with the wording of "Bootleg". And as for Bob's "series of bootlegs", it's a laughable title. They are little more than songs put on an album for public sale, hardly a bootleg in the real meaning of the word.

As we all know, this was an excellent Martin Scorsese film, with an album taken from the title and all above board and totally legal. All the records to my knowledge had been on albums... Bootleg? I really don't think so.
