Isaac's dear old dad
He must have been one wealthy son of a bitch. I mean how many of us have axes made of gold down in our toolboxes?

well, i wouldn't put anything past that creepy old fruitcake. i looked in the bible and it doesn't say anything about what the axe was made of. it might have been just a plain old cast iron one. maybe leonard is just making it up. what was it he said in 'hallelujah'? "i told the truth, i didn't come to fool ya!" he calls it "the story of isaac" but have you noticed the end is missing? the door slowly opens, they go up the mountain, abe builds an altar, isaac lays on top, and the last thing we hear about is abe's "trembling" hand. that's it, that's all you get. in the next verse leonard goes off on a tangent talking about uniforms and peacocks and stuff, while everyone who doesn't have a bible is left on a cliff-hanger not knowing what happened next. it's like hitchcock's 'the birds' or 'no country for old men' when the screen just goes black after tommy lee jones tells his wife about his two dreams. i hate it when they do that. i wanted to know what happened to anton chigurh, did he get caught or what? and at the end of 'shame' did that sex-fixated man follow that woman off the underground train or not? some people seem to get some sort of sadistic enjoyment out of not giving you the end of the story, they like to see you squirm, they like to make you feel cheated and frustrated. i don't think leonard planned to make a 'story of isaac, part 2' because there's not much more to tell. the poor bugger lived a pretty uneventful life after that harrowing experience up the mountain.Cate wrote:hummmm....

that dude was definitely creepy but who knows ... a goldin ax is a heck of a lot of bling. I bet lots of ladies where asking him to come over and cut down apple trees and such (mind you they probably hid their kids away first)
in real life we seldom know the beginnings or ends – we just wander through the middle.

down in my "toolbox" I have something much more valuable than some boring precious-metal coated wood-cutting instrument.
