I feel compelled to write, knowing Leonard will never read my post.
I want to thank Leonard Cohen for his music, his lyrics and his friendship, despite us never having met.
I am 31 years old and have known Leonard since my earliest days. He was integral to my parents meeting in the 1970's, my father worked in Germany, no doubt he was introduced to Leonard via a girlfriend of the time. My mum met my dad and I secretly believe her falling for my father was a result of falling for Leonard. In my dad's VW minibus en route to their work he would sing Leonard songs (very well I may add, he also was born with the gift of a "golden voice", but Leonard is about all he can sing with any conviction).
My parents divorced when I was 7 years old, but still to date, they both love Leonard. My earliest memories were listening to Leonard's LP's in the sitting room, I knew every word...and still do. My mum has been to see Leonard at every opportunity. At the Royal Albert Hall, probably back in about 1990 she found her way down to the stage and gave Leonard a rose, he almost fell off the stage (but he didn't), I was there too, about 9 years old and I was awestruck.
I don't listen to Leonard every day, I could, his music never get's boring, but I choose the time to listen and give it my full attention.
I sing and I always imagined as a kid that I would one day sing with Leonard. I'm pretty good. It is amazing as a Leonard Cohen fan, you get really protective over his music, almost everyone I've ever heard cover his songs don't do the music justice, it's Leonard's life which he sings about, who else could possibly do it justice.
Thank you Leonard for sharing your music with me for the past 30+ years, I wish you every happiness and when the day comes when God wants you back, he recognises the good you have done with your music. Thank you!
Thank you Leonard!!!

Thank you Lizzy.
I would really love for people to write about their appreciation for their personal connection with Leonard...
with best wishes.

Re: Thank you Leonard!!!
They do, Kane... in a wide variety of different threads throughout the Forum.
It was lovely to read yours.
Across time, we've attempted to gather them through initiating various specific threads, but the appreciation and his significance in people's lives just bubbles over everywhere. I wish I could direct you to a specific location, but I simply can't. With time, you'll see what I mean. Come September, however, you can plan on giving Leonard a personal message that he WILL read, as Jarkko initiates a thread for our personal greetings to Leonard for his birthday... then, Jarkko delivers them to Leonard electronically. So, you can be thinking of exactly how you want to say what you want him to know
