unfurling the poems...input request....

Post by LaurieAK »

Hi All~

I am confused as to how everyone would like the contest poems to be unveiled. So i am requesting input from everyone interested. If you respond, please don't let on whether or not you have, or plan to submit a poem.

So far, we thought that submitting them each on their own thread would be best.

I think that submitting them individually (on their own thread) but basically all at the same time would work. Does anyone think this would be too overwhelming? Any other ideas?

Also, for the sake of me getting the poems anonymously, Lizzy has been numbering them sequentially and sending them to me. Because of this and because several poems have identical titles, I am going to post them (individually) as their given (by Lizzy) number. So far we have 9 poems. So we sequentially have numbers 1 through 9. I want to be sure this system does not get confused with a prize/winner order. It is merely to keep the poems straight because of same title conflicts.

As for the comments and judging: The plan is for me to have my comments and judgement made BEFORE unveiling any of them...BUT i will keep that info private till everyone has a chance to view them, comment, etc. This said, i guess it will be up to the masses to determine when you all want to hear from me.

All this is pretty much winging it.

Anything and everything is up for discussion. Please speak up if you would like to see something changed from what i have spelled out.

regards,
Laurie

Laurie, I suggest that when you announce the winning entry you post it and all the other entries without announcing the winner's name. At least for a few days. We could all enjoy the poems the way you did when you received them. Then you could announce the winner. Just a suggestion.

I agree with you both!

reveal them unattributed on a sepearte thread for each. I suggest a few at a time or it will be too many for people to pay proper attention to.

each thread will therfor also allow people to guess author.

deffo. do your judging first so you are uninfluenced by the herd.

moot point whether you indicate the "winner" and any "commended" as you first post them or only later is up to you. Judges have to make difficult decisions- that's why you get paid so much.

I think the poems should all be on one thread. It doesn't look like there will be too many to make the thread unwieldy. It will make it easier to compare them. Keep them all under quarantine on one thread. If you don't -- the poems will be all over the place when people start complain...uh...commmenting about them. And we'll be spending all our time running back and forth across the wasteland.

Hi Laurie ~

I agreed with your posting when I read it. Then, I read again the/a staggering idea, and agree. My end feeling was to stagger them, for proper 'taking in' of their content. Separate threads, of course, with the numerical, indicating the order in which received, attached. I feel most strongly about your having made your comments and determined your winner [and "place"ers?] prior to your posting. You can PM me with the winner/placers and your comments, which will be posted, after all have been read. Does that sound okay? My concern is that your comments may be a giveaway[?] as to who the winner is? If not, then post your own comments, immediately, when you first post the poems.

Have I confused us more  ? Oh, brave woman that you are. This is why we needed someone used to the harsh winters and rough terrain of Alaska to be our high and holy Judge  . You're doing great!

Love,
Lizzy

Hmmmm.......well, there goes Midnight with a good idea :? . I'm now picturing them all up and down the 'table of contents' of this section  . Could be a 'problem' of sorts. See why I'm not Judge  ?

Loving your word choice[s], Midnight  ,

AHA! I have an idea! Once I really imagined all the poems on one thread, I realized just how confusing the COMMENTS could become for each one.

So, my idea:

Post them all on one thread, for 'ease' of comparison.
Then ~ Post them all separately, for the individual, posting of comments. That way, like the way it is now, the comments will be in direct relationship with the poem itself.

sounds like hard work, Lizzy but why not.

the most important thing is to have seperate poems on seperate threads otherwise comments will not be close by the related poems.

I agree that the comments should be near the poems themselves.

I also agree that they'll be easier to 'compare' if on one thread.

So, I say, open two 'buttons' to the site, use one for the reading, and as you want to comment on the first one, open the thread for that one to record your comments. The way I visualize it, it's the easiest way of keeping the chaos down.

Does anyone know if there is a limit to the size of a thread? There are 23 poems so far...not all long. But i am wondering if there is a maximum size to a single thread...thanks, Laurie

Sorry I hadn't answered that yet, Laurie. We're fine. There's the 'War Is Hell' thread that's many pages long! You also have some poems waiting to be sent ~ but I'm waiting for answers on titles and some other questions I have!

Actually, I guess you meant whether there's a length limit on a single posting ~ to accommodate all poems being in one posting, right? [Before we separate them out onto their own threads.]
