I'll be buying mine [well, three of them, actually] from my record store guy. Yes, I know I could get them cheaper from another source; however, then I wouldn't be able to support my record store guy.

I will check for the better price, but I suspect it will be the same more or less from one to another music store. So I do not know yet, where I'll by it.

One thing is sure, I will not stole intellectual property because I could do it easily without much risk. I do not believe in "freedom" this way.

But the question I ask to myself is "Do you have a percentage on the sales, YankovicGretzky"

My record-store guy will match another price, if I tell him. He did it once when I commented on what something was going for at Border's. However, he's a truly small [and small-town] operation, and I don't check or tell him any more. I just order. All the cd copying has taken a gouge with him, as well, and a couple dollars difference isn't going to hurt me. He's helpful in other ways, too, so it all balances out.

I already received an email from Amazon to say that my copy is on its way :)

It's really great to hear you supporting your local record store guy, Lizzytysh! :D As a former record store girl, it makes me very happy to hear - and makes me miss my regular customers I left behind when I moved. I'm glad you don't ask for price matching anymore too - after working in a record store long enough you kind of grow tired of hearing "it's cheaper at Walmart, can you price match?".

Actually, I didn't even ask for it to begin with, Sophistikitten. It came up in conversation, as I'd been over there [at Border's] and checked to see if they had it, just in case. However, when I mentioned it, I said I'd rather pay his price and get it from him. He kept insisting that he was willing to price match [I guess maybe concerned about my loyalty?] and that he was going to sell it to me at the lower price. It was after that, that I just never brought up prices again.

I'm glad to hear you say that you appreciate hearing it. He has expressed, every time I come in, that he appreciates my loyalty. As you know, that appreciation only adds to and perpetuates that loyalty. "Wal Mart" would be particularly irritating to hear, as they make such a business of undercutting, even to the extent of compromising the well being of their suppliers.

there are no small record stores in my area, only several big chains, so mine is ordered and on its way from an online supplier.

I got notice on Friday from amazon.com that my Dear Heather had been shipped. Here in Juneau, there is only one resource for cd's and they are not always inclined to be on top of these things. So, i figured getting it from amazon would be fastest.

Also, yesterday i was 'tracking' my package and Dear Heather was ranked #44 on amazon's music sales chart. When i looked again this morning it was up to #39. I think that is amazing, considering he is not in the hip-hop-pop genre.

Not to mention their employees reduced to slavery, so to speak. Not much better than black market to me. :?

Yes LaurieAK :) But the man has a reputation. And he even did not a sole promo, as far as I know, refusing interviews and everything. There, I understand him. I would not like to do this sort of thing. :o

I like what whoever [was it Paula? Margaret? Linmag?] said about the amount of media interest that Leonard is generating, regardless of his age or his, heretofore, alleged status/non-status in the industry.

Plus, as you say, no press kit[?]; promo single; or interviews ~ amazing, when you think about it.

Today's the magick day, the one that we've been waiting for ~ open the floodgates ~ I can tell there'll be many words to follow  . It sounds like this one is going to turn many things inside out. Way to go, Leonard. Who but you, at 70, could accomplish so much with so [objectively, reportedly] 'little'. Tee-Hee. You've got to be loving it :D .

I'll probably get my copy at Future Shop (a big Canadian electronics chain) since they tend to have excellent prices on new releases (about 7 dollars cheaper than the record store). However, I con't afford to buy anything right now, so Dear Heather, along with Tom Waits' Real Gone and so very many other CDs I want, it will have to go unpurchased for the time being. And since I won't download it (I draw the line at more than a couple of tracks from an album), I won't even get to hear it any time soon :-( When I can't even buy something essential like a new Cohen album, you know my finances are in dire shape.

Take care

Dear Heather made it to #18 in sales on Amazon.com so far. It's at #38 on Barnes&Noble.com. It won't show on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart until next Friday. Dear Heather will be Leonard's second straight album to enter Billboard in the United States. Ten New Songs made it to #143.
