Theme for Poetry Contest/Exercise
Theme:
"Life in seedy hotels"
or
"Life in a seedy hotel"
Minor difference, same difference.
I sure hope people get involved with this. I, of course, also hope you 'like' the theme.
I've just changed the DEADLINE: It's now 9:00 PM GMT, which is 1:00 AM EST. That way, if someone in the GMT zone cannot actually work on their computer at their workplace, they'll still have until 9:00 PM from home to finish up and submit.

This is my submission, and i will not tolerate any accusations of plagarism.I remember you
well in the Chelsea Hotel,
you were talking so brave and so sweet,
giving me head on the unmade bed,
while the limousines wait in the street.
Those were the reasons and that was New York,
we were running for the money and the flesh.
And that was called love for the workers in song
probably still is for those of them left.
Ah but you got away, didn't you babe,
you just turned your back on the crowd,
you got away, I never once heard you say,
I need you, I don't need you,
I need you, I don't need you
and all of that jiving around.
I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel
you were famous, your heart was a legend.
You told me again you preferred handsome men
but for me you would make an exception.
And clenching your fist for the ones like us
who are oppressed by the figures of beauty,
you fixed yourself, you said, "Well never mind,
we are ugly but we have the music."
And then you got away, didn't you babe...
I don't mean to suggest that I loved you the best,
I can't keep track of each fallen robin.
I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel,
that's all, I don't even think of you that often.

How do you feel about the theme statement/phrase, having/not having to be included in the body of the poem?
You're welcome, of course, Laurie

I so agree! I just think it's neat that we're doing something on a common, Leonard-related theme [and thanks to the one who suggested that, what-should-have-been-obvious idea!] ~ if I wrote poetry, I'd join in. But, hey, why start now"I do hope the prolific poets submit and put their egos to one side."

I can't see for looking.....
what day is the deadline???
It has been commented here before that a poem needs time to be developed and worked.
I find it a rewarding experience seeing how a poem changes from inception to completion...... leaving a poem for a while and then going back to it are all part of the process.
I will be away for a few days and will like to think that I could have a poem ready for when I come back..

2 wedding invitations were offered on Ebay this week by someone who was not keen on going and made some pretty derogatory remarks about the bride, brisdesmaids etc. They started at £20 which was good value for the food and entertainment which was to be provided, but bidding got a bit out of hand and someone bid £10,000,0000
