Hi Kush,

Thanks for posting a link to this good story. Loyalty seems to be a trait that is becoming increasingly rare.

Thanks also for the link to the cover of "If You Go Away." :)

I've been meaning to say this for a while - I couldn't agree more. I am not a fan of the man's music but I certainly am of his ethics!
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to B4real ~ me
Attitude is a self-fulfilling prophecy ~ me ...... The magic of art is the truth of its lies ~ me ...... Only left-handers are in their right mind!

Hi Steven & B4real,

Some may question his ethics - he was never able to shrug off allegations of mob ties but he was known for almost a fanatical loyalty to his friends, especially those who fell on hard times (e.g. Sammy Davis Jr.). My interest though is primarily through his music , my father's vinyl albums of his music was probably some of the earliest music I heard.
Historical aspects of popular music and its effect on people is interesting.....here is an interesting article titled "The Sinatra Riots 1942-44" including some shots from that time. Its funny to think he would travel by train to perform in various parts of the country at that time. Also recall an interview where he said one time he had to do 11 shows continuously from 8.10 AM to 2.30 AM (next day) at the Paramount Theater in New York (obviously not out of choice, he did not have an option in the early days)

youtube is both a wonder and a distraction - cool videos of "teen idol" Sinatra in the 40s..

Mr. Bennett himself has spanned multiple generations now

Favorite Sinatra recordings: I Will Wait for You; Summer Wind; I'll Be Seeing You; The Shadow of Your Smile....lots more. I've got a couple dozen of his albums.

Good stuff, Kush. Ella's another one of the all-time greats, 'specially when she scats. I've got many of her recordings, but hadn't seen these particular duets.

Hi Squidgy,

Frank and Ella have good chemistry together. I have fairly extensive Sinatra collection but only one of Ella Fitzgerald (with Louis Armstrong). Until recently I dont believe I'd seen much footage of Sinatra but now I think I understand how he got the 'Chairman of the Board' tag. He was a man of many friends and allegedly a few shady ones as well :) ....supposedly the reason for his falling out with JFK/ RFK.
Someone should make a movie on the guy - is he hero or is he villain ? Perfect for an art movie I think.

Enjoyed both the tracks Sturgess. I recognize the first one from the No One Cares album which has terrific cover art. Love both Gordon Jenkins and Nelson Riddle arrangements and to be honest I wouldnt probably be able to distinguish between the two. They are both great but I am sure they have individual nuances.
