Recrimination



In the fiery furnace of affliction I am recognized

by every law I jettison and cast aside.

I pass through states of being slightly traumatized

by a litany of regrets I cannot yet abide.

I have struggled under a tyranny of self so profound

that it has defined my every move.

In the fiery furnace of affliction I am secretly found

contrite with all restraint removed.


With a spirit of conviction, I sought to cast blame

upon the backs of my dearest kin.

There was precious little I had which I could retain

that had not succumbed to perverse sins.

I have slaved in a world where passion is deranged,

transfigured by illness, ego, and desire.

With a spirit of conviction, I attempted to arrange

a revenge that would satisfy my ire.


I have failed to abstain from idols and hypnotism

that distracted me from higher ideals.

I have pursued an existence defined by a nepotism

towards the unworthy I sought to conceal.

Haunted by a declaration of the heart I once made,

I have been compromised in this place.

This land where countless ghosts march in a parade

that so clearly celebrates my disgrace.
