Oh, it's a woman  ? I thought it was a man or a group. OK, I will, but won't do me much good at this point, as I have no sound  .

She is Icelandic with a strange dress sense who attacks journalists and sings "its oh so quiet shh shh". I quite like her she is a one off

She also has just got a new album out titled Medulla, which has had good reviews. She is certainly a little eccentric! One of my sons has some of her earlier work. The new one has no traditional instruments at all, just layers of vocals.

She was also nominated for an award for her brilliant acting in the Lars von Trier film Dancer in the dark, which we have at home. My son says it's a real tear jerker, and I haven't psyched myself up to watch it yet!

Lizzie you could look her up on Amazon even if you can't listen to samples.

Bjork rocks this planet!

I LOVE Bjork - she is individual, cheeky, marches to the beat of her own...umm..synthesizer and is always creating something new. I love her lyrics. Lizzy do try and listen to her, I would start with the Homogenic or Debut albums.

I haven't gotten my hand on Medulla yet. Margaret - if you get motion sickness I would advise taking a little pill before seeing Dancer in the Dark. It was filmed with something like 300 handheld cameras. ANd it's quite a distressing story - she was bril as were the other actors.

Rave rave rave...love Bjork! Love her...

Yes, I Googled her, after I left here, and was delighted to find she's from R, Iceland 8) ! I saw the different covers of her albums, and read a number of comments on her. I was intrigued more by her when I read the anti-her comments. The nature of them struck positive chords with me  . I'll be certain to listen to her at some point. Thanks for all the suggestions from all of you. That movie sounds intrigueing, too.

I'm a huge Bjork fan and saw her in concert last year in London - I believe most people will find the recent albums Vespertine and Homogenic to be the most accessible, the earlier Post and Debut being much more pop based - still great though.

You may recall her appearance at the Oscars in the much commented on 'swan' dress and her hit Spike Jonez video for 'It's Oh so Quiet'.

I was wondering if there was a link between Leonard and Bjork (apart from their fondness of Iceland!) but all I could find was that they both featured on an 'erotic music' top 10 list.

ho hum..
Cheers,
Stephen

Margret~ I've seen Dancing in the Dark, it is impressive.
Bjork was very popular in SF few years ago- I couln't quite get it-Bjork dis and Bjork dat- than I saw the movie, it is impressive, not that I much understand of her. Still, there is something what touches ones heart, even if one isn't sure what the fuss is about.
I guess i should get her music as well 8)
For some reason I found her music connected to Sigrid Undset's "Kristina- Lawrance Daughter"- jeez, that one is hardly the case

I remember seeing the swan dress. It was unquestionably an over-the-top, outside-the-box sense of fashion. It apparently underscores the same in the musical realm. Not a 'bad' thing, at all. I look forward to hearing her music, and seeing this film. It's available through video rentals, Bee?

Well, that figures. Independent Film channel [a great channel to have if you do watch TV, which I don't]. I'll check the video stores. Disturbing I can deal with. Electricity to watch anything remains an issue. Gang is right. What an unbelievable one-two punch, and now the biggest brother ~ Ivan the Terrible [a Russian, historic figure ~ right?] coming in to 'finish it off.' [A little in the black-humour department  is my 'feeling' that G~d's still ticked off about how the 'election' went four years ago, and is making his point on it now, as the Republican convention closes, warning us to not muck it up again, this time. Of course, for you as a 'Republican' to find any humour in it at all may require that you do a role reversal and pretend it's all about the Democrats  .] Is the film disturbing in a weather sense; or just more of disturbing material than I may need at this point?

Love,
Lizzy

But no, Lizzy~ there is no disturbin weather material in dat film
I am afraid for the Earthquake shaking us up soon here, de weather feels like that. Last night my bed was trambling for a while, today I heard on de news that there was a little shaky- shaky somewhere around.
Well- everything in de good Lord's hands, not much we c'n do.
