This exceptional Norwegian saxophone player is touring the UK again this autumn. Highly recommended, I've seen him 3 times.

I agree with you totally - he and his support musicians are outstanding!
Surprisingly enough, I saw him perform here in Toowoomba (of all places
) about 5 years ago.
Cheers

I'd love to see him live, margaret - 'Officium', with The Hilliard Ensemble is a wonderful album. To use a cliche: haunting.

sounds so polish

I saw him perform with the Hilliard Ensemble 2 or 3 years back in a cathedral, performing haunting ancient or medieval churchy music. He and the singers walked about the building and the sounds came from all directions, becoming louder as they approached us, then drifting gently away. A magical evening.
The other 3 times he was with his regular "jazz" musicians, all excellent performers in their own right. A blend of folky, or bluesy type jazz as well as some more contemporary material. I am not normally a jazz enthusiast, and my first concert was just out of curiosity when I saw an advertising flyer. I've since acquired several cd's , some he did as collaborations with eastern musicians such as Ravi Shankar.
