Incredible String Band

We went to see the Incredible String band earlier this week...it was incredible!!! :)
I understand that they got together again last year and we managed to see them do their last gig of the present tour at Buxton Opera House (what a setting!!)
No Robin Wiliamson mind you but Mike Heron and Clive Palmer (2 of the original founders) and 3 others including a lady called 'Fluff' (very sixties 8) ) made up the band. Fluff's vocals and her dexterity on a wide range of instruments made up for the absence of Robin Williamson.
Mike Heron hasn't changed over all the years and his voice was just as superb.
They performed songs from their first six albums.. my favourite album being '5000 Spirits or the Layers of an Onion' from which they did 'Painting Box' amongst others.
They also performed a song they had never ever done live before.. 'A very Cellular Song'. I could go on but it won't mean anything to those who haven't heard them before.
A very accomplished show which brought back many happy memories.
I believe they will be doing more gigs but none announced at the moment and if you were (or are!) a fan then try not to miss if they come your way.

Now yer talking!
The I.S.B. are one of the greatest bands IN THE WORLD !!!
My connection with them goes back to Edinburgh in the late 60's : they played in the clubs and concert venues. Their first album contains the sublime "October Song". The 5000 Spirits was a "must have" album for university students (along with L.C.'s first album, "Tommy", Sgt Pepper, and several others that were always stolen at parties).
I saw them at Woodstock in 1969. I reckon we were the only Scots at that event.
The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter is another of my I.S.B. favourites.

WOW!!!!!

There is now a book and a dvd available (which we just had to buy!!). The dvd is more or less the same concert we saw but we havent played it yet. We'll save it for when our memories of the gig fade :)

trust you are enjoying the hols.

btw? are you a fan of a group called Caravan?? They are appearing in Edinburgh later this year.

Dear Pete,
Yes I recall Caravan: I saw them in concert in the Usher Hall in 1970 (or was it '71?). Around that time, my undergraduate years in Edinburgh University, I also saw Donovan, John Mayall, Led Zepplin and many other bands. The best place to sit was the "gods", for obvious reasons!
Oh Pete, nostalgia ain't wot it used to be!
I also recall seeing the Humblebums; Billy Connolly and Gerry Rafferty in "concert".
It's all coming back now......the late 60s........Thunderclap Newman....
Abbey Road (second side!).

I saw John Mayall in concert ~ finally ~ after listening to the 6 or so albums of his that I bought long before. I always wanted to hear Sugar Cane Harris do something on one of Leonard's albums.
