Letter to Leonard Cohan from a stranger

There you are trapped in those windows
Smartly dressed handsome really so far
From the limited neighborhoods past
When word first came I was a student skipping

On a high road just outside Concarneau
It rang from the cloth sway of cottage curtains
Quant corners and cracked walls
While I soaked in a day’s shine and glory

Your celebrity has ministered to many
Like a rabbi trying to keep charge
Girls and gurus the prophetic musicians
And professor’s pursuits of power

Not exactly lost but hunkering creatures
Of psychic omission here I stay
In the pulp of this northern Michigan
Lumber town an Indian Cadillac caught

In my radio a whistling train
You’re way up there now you know it
Take us to that tower on the hardened stones
To the next story your final anointing

Are there plane trails in the cosmos?
It’s your ceiling no borders no pane
Let us go with you and stand
Let’s take a look together
