Carrying on the enviromental theme from "The Allotment "
the reluctant recycler
i am pineing for the old days
when i only had one bin
i would love to be a recycler
but i don’t have the discipline
paper in the blue bin
dog dirt in the red
i cannot face this confusion
i think i will stay in bed
grass cuttings in the green one
household rubbish in the black
there’s so much to remember
it’s a struggle to keep track
then there’s the question of leftovers
after i have eaten my tea
they go in a contraption
it’s called a wormery
what other inventions are in store
new recycling methods to try
please let me just have one bin
i do not recycle -- i cry!!
i would love to save the planet
the planets been good to me
but why can’t i do it when i’m dead
and be buried under a tree
but wait a minute let’s think on this
it’s not as bad as all that
it stops my house from smelling
and my dog from getting fat
there is even a very strong rumour
the council have a scheme
they will pay for empty alcohol cans
this is surely only a dream
so i’m not giving up recycling yet
i will sit and drink some beer
then who knows if i swollow enough
i’ll become recycler of the year

Hi Yorkshire Lad,
Your poem on recycling is great. I too am having a problem with it. Only every two weeks pickup and so much to recycle... sigh. Which plastic to recylcle and which not. Styrofoam? It is a major headache. Recycling makes sense but it gets quite confusing does it not?

Re: The Reluctant Recycler
Hi Yorkshire lad,
Styrofoam is used to package meat/poultry. Then covered with clear plastic. It is also used to package breakable equipment, such as tv's, radios etc. It is very light and made of plastic. Also used when mailing breakable items in boxes. Looks like popcorn for mailing. Best I can do to explain.
Anyway we are not supposed to recycle that in my area.

Good Poem YL...
I too recycle but it does get confusing (mind you it doesn't take much to confuse me).
I think Styrofoam is a form of Polystyrene...
