A part of the misdirection

Post by vern.silver »

___1525___
do you ever think of all the things
that happen in life
that never happen to you

___1530___
like the romances
always a part of the misdirection
the distinctions we make
between what we want to hold onto
what we choose to let go
and leave to wander in the
what ifs
that memory allows to haunt
the footsteps you have left
the ones that time has erased
and the others time has not mastered

___1540___
my own ideas
whatever they are
worn out by continued use
abuse
misuse

the once tardy way i approached sleep
the once unpleasant way i chose to keep
everything wrapped up inside indecision
where i place my head
left my heart
moved ahead of the crowd
eyes down
blind to the direction i move in
bumping into things feeling the bruises
later looking at the discoloured skin
knowing like everything else that marks us
that it will fade

___1547___
i have always wanted
to draw your face
inside these words

the lines that follow
the shape of your nose
your full lips that always seem
to have a smile on them
the wavy goldness of your hair

i long to be able to shape the swirls
and twist the chaos
of all that beauty
into the limited space of my talent
my ability to look at you
and see heaven

yesterday the colour of words
shaped me
today it is the colour of your eyes
tomorrow it might be other things
but i dream for it to be
the smell of your skin

___1555___
there is my basic instinct
because i am a man
that slivers through me
while i watch you
or dream of others
that i have forgotten

the almost nothing of the touch
that has marked me
that i have not yet felt
of real love
of true love

love that
forgives

Hey Vern,

Thanks for sharing

This is my favourite part -
i long to be able to shape the swirls
and twist the chaos
of all that beauty
into the limited space of my talent
I very much like the way that you have said this

Thank you Alsiony,

I am quite happy with those lines.

The poem itself is part of a series of poems I am working on that are basically connected (the two others I have already posted and one I will post later today.)

They are the result of a little 'navel gazing' that I have been going through recently while dealing with several health issues which have me contemplating my life and what I've done with it as well as my mortality. I had planned to attend Karakow, but these health issues have made it impossible.

Also, for the past two years I have been caught up in what has become a very 'angry' seperation/divorce.

This is why I've decided to post them here. To share with the community of Cohenn fans many of whom I cherish as close friends and all of whom I care much for and have enjoyed meeting either at concert dates or at events such as Krakow.

Sorry if this seems a little whiny.

Whiny!? We'll have none of that Vern :)

I think it is wonderful that you have put pen to paper for this, I do wish you well though, I hope all is ok with you.

Creativity is a thing to treasure, no matter how we may find it within ourselves, or for whatever reason a particular phase of expressing yourself may come.
I am enjoying reading your poems, thanks again, I hope you will be well
Best Wishes

These lines stopped me in my tracks, (as they say) Vern. What a Beautiful image.

Shades of Prufrock in you evolving life/poem.

Thank you for those comments. That is quite the compliment and perhaps undeserved. I did a paper on 'Prufrock' many many years ago in a University course and I am a big fan of Eliot's poetry so perhaps that influence was sneaking through.
