Pre and/or aftershow meet up in Berlin - August 18

Post by Caren »

A few Cohenites and I were just wondering if there is anyone interested in a preshow or aftershow meet up around Leonard's concert at the Waldbuehne Berlin.

Because this is a general admission venue we will have to start queueing early so probably an aftershow visit to a pub or the like would be best.

- there is a nice Irish pub in Mitte where we could go - they are open late. Plus there are more places nearby where we can find alternatives... after all Berlin is the city that never sleeps...

any thoughts?

looking forward to seeing you there :D

hey caren.

the question might be if our friends from abroad stay in the central part of berlin(like mitte) or if they try to get their resting rooms close to waldbuehne.

according to their website, there is a kilkenny' s in charlottenburg too. much closer!

i don' t know if it really matters. but well, we will see!

greetings ;-)

Well, the question is if that Kilkenny in Charlottenburg will be open that long after midnight on a Wedsnesday. I have been there a couple of times and have some serious doubts actually. That is why I suggested the one in Mitte. It's at the Hackischer Markt and will probably be open until the morning. Plus there are plenty of other places open all night in that area. Knowing Charlottenburg as a rather quiet area in the middle of the week we may have trouble finding anything. Of course I am open for suggestions :)

For those not living in Berlin - the distance between the two pubs is just a ten minutes ride on the overground, straight through from the Waldbuehne.

where is anyone staying? are there any hotels/motels/hostels near the Waldbuehne which is a rather remote area? I thought most people would prefer to stay in the centre of town.

Hi Caren :) ,

Thank you for opening up this thread!
It looks as if "Closing Time" at the Kilkenny's in Charlottenburg is at 01:00.
That's why I'd prefer your suggestion. And, as you said, there are plenty of alternatives in Mitte.

If anyone is interested, perhaps we could already meet up for a coffee before the concert at the Literaturhaus-Café, one of my favourite places in Charlottenburg.

Look forward to seeing you, Caren, and all you lovely people very soon 8) ,
take care,
Heike

Thanks, Caren for starting this thread and thanks, Heike for your suggestion.

As long as I can get there by taxi, I am very interested in a fan meet-up before the concert.

After the concert is not an option for me anyway. The next morning, I have to get up very early for a 7 am flight to Brussels for the Ghent 2x concerts . :D

Looking forward to meeting everyone and taking pics for a "Berlin 2010 Forum Fan Video".

btw. Heike and I have already PM'd about this: When someone calls her by name, I also will respond. My Yiddish name is "Hikey" and it is pronounced the same way as Heike. :D

My advice is to stay somethin more central. You'll reach the venue very good by public transportation and you will be better off somewhere in Mitte or Charlottenburg where you reach the sightseeing points easily.

By the way I was confused about the beginning of the concert because it said 6.30 p.m. on the ticket which I couldn't believe. So I was asking eventim who is the operator of Waldbühne and they confirmed that at 6.30 p.m. the concert starts. It has to do with substantial penalties which are due when they play after 10 p.m.

Thanks Christel and Ute for your advice. I think we will be staying in Charlottenburg, the hotel is a 5 minute walk from Zoollogischer Garden Station which appears quite easy to get to from Schoenefeld Airport.

Christel, if the concert starts at 6.30 pm as it's unreserved seating can you tell me how I should travel to Waldbühne and what time I would need to leave Charlottenburg to get there in good time? I read somewhere that you take the U-Bahn to Olympic Stadium and then get a shuttle bus, but I have no idea how long that will take.

Thank you so much for your help

Jackie

hey jackie.

i' m not crystal, but here' s what i can tell you about travelling to waldbuehne:

you can take the s-bahn(line 3 or 75) to spandau(it stops at both, zoologischer garten and charlottenburg).
get out at pichelsberg. it takes about 20 minutes. from pichelsberg you' ll have to walk some minutes.
it may be a 30-minute journey overall.

i took the trip. it' s close to my description above: 17 minutes from zoologischer garten to pichelsberg, 10 minutes from pichelsberg station to the entrance of waldbuehne.

greetings

Hi Maulwurf

Thanks for travel information, very helpful, what time are people likely to arrive at waldbuehne as it's unreserved seating.

Can you get anything to eat/drink there or should you take your own drinks?

Hi Jackie,
Unfortunately I was not able to find out when they open the gates at Waldbühne. Usually it is about two hours before the concert starts.
You can buy food and drinks there. The last time we were not allowed to take our own drinks.
So long, Christel

Hi Marianne,
yes, unfortunately they are only upstairs and the toilet situation especialle at the women's is usually quite bad. Long queues etc. What I always did was queue before the start, often go into the men's (nobody ever objected) and avoid drinking. Which may become a problem with almost four hours of concert and the time before. Sorry for this not so good news for your mother.
So long and see you in Berlin, hopefully in front of the stage.

I just want to mention one other thing in case you don't know: Your concert ticket is also valid for public transportation to and from Waldbühne. So you won't have to buy an extra ticket.
